2.10 Ascot 7F Pat Eddery Stakes (Listed Race ) Sat 23rd July

On Saturday we are back at Ascot for decent looking card ,featuring the group one King George V1 & Queen Elizabeth Stakes , though for the blogs best bet, we are going concentrate on one the supporting races at Ascot .

9 runners declared for 7 furlong Pat Eddery listed stakes for two year old colts & geldings at 2.10 .This looks decent two year old contest on ground described as good/firm .The three main contenders look to be Dubai Hero , Monticello & Mutawatheb .

DUBAI HERO :Made impressive debut ,winning fair looking 7F maiden at Newmarket earlier this month .Came from last to first, after getting hampered at start .Winning in good style at finish .Looks open to plenty improvement for top connections .

MONTICELLO : Unbeaten in two starts over 7 furlongs, winning maiden at Sandown & novice stakes at Musselburgh.Making all on both occasions .Winning by 5 lenghs at Musselburgh last time, that didn't look the strongest contest ,though interesting contender for trainer Mark Johnston .

MUTAWATHEB : Made promising debut in 6 furlong maiden at Goodwood last month ,finishing close 2ND behind the useful Boynton (winner of  G2 Superlative stakes since )Made no mistake last time, winning 14 runner 6F maiden at Newbury in good style .Looks open to plenty improvement over this longer trip .

VERDICT : Dubai Hero will be popular for Godolphin ,having made eyecatching debut at Newmarket, though odds around 5-2 look short enough for maiden winner, in what looks strong looking two year old listed contest .

At the prices MUTAWATHEB looks the each-way value .His Goodwood 2ND could hardly worked out better, with the first six from that race, all winning races since ,including the winner Boynton winning in G2 company at Newmarket since .This longer trip should also suit. Odds around 9-2 look decent value .

Charming Thought looks the main danger , especially if reproducing the pick of his two year old form ,though will need step up on his 4TH in listed company last time .

CRAZY HORSE : Decent two year old last season, winning both starts, including winning the group three Horris Hill Stakes at Newbury in October .Made promising reappearance finishing staying on 6TH  in French 2000 guineas behind the useful The Gurkha .Should go well dropping down into listed company .

ESIIDRAAK : Lightly raced sort for Sir Michael Stoute ,bolted up in 7 furlong maiden on All Weather at Kempton in November ,beating the 77 rated Coherent by 7 lenghs . Will need show more improvement to win listed contest ,though this longer trip should suit .

LUMIERE : High class two year filly ,winning 2 out 3 last season ,including winning the 6F group one Cheveley Park stakes at Newmarket in September .Finished bitterly disappointing last of 16 in 1000 guineas at Newmarket last time ,when well fancied second favourite .Drop in class will suit ,though unproven over this 1 mile trip .

VERDICT : This looks well above average three year old listed contest, with a few these taking drop down in class.

Lumiere will have her supporters ,having shown some very useful form last season in some the top 2-Y-0 filly's races ,though there looked something amiss when finishing last of 16 in 1000 guineas last time, also looks far from certain to stay this 1 mile trip .Has plenty question marks to answer .

CRAZY HORSE looks the most solid here ,having made promising reappearance in French 2000 guineas at Deauville in May,staying on nicely at the finish,in strong looking race .Will be suited by this drop in class, having won in higher grade last season .Odds around 9-2 look decent value.
