Disappointing end to the month !!!

Disappointing finish to the month with Thursday's bet on  Captain Dimitrios finishing well beaten fourth in the 6 furlong selling stakes at Leicester.LOSS -£200 / 2.00 PTS

Well supported in market going off 5-2 2nd favourtite ,though had no excuses in the race itself, after pulling hard in early part of the race, still had every chance with 2 furlongs to run ,though never picked up .

Captain Dimitrios looked horse who I thought could win small seller going back to the turf ,though this was most disappointing run,in hindsight had probably had more than enough chances to win a small race and looks horse to avoid in the future.

Overall not the greatest month with only very small profit in March, though that does make it three winning months in row and fairly happy with consistency of the bets so far this year.

Thursdays best bets !!

Two flat cards on Thursday on the turf at Leicester and evening card on the All Weather at Wolverhampton ,going concentrate on 6 furlong selling stakes at Leicester.

6F SELLING STAKES CLASS 6 LEICESTER 2.50
CAPTAIN DIMITRIOS :Consistent type on the All Weather this winter ,though never got his head in front did finish second four times .Won 6.5 furlong selling stakes at Newbury in July on fast ground. Will be suited by the return to 6 furlongs after getting outpaced over shorter trip last time.

VERDICT : Captain Loui & Eternal Youth both look closely matched with Captain Dimitrios on there All Weather form ,though both horses look  inconsistent types.

CAPTAIN DIMITRIOS is reliable type in this grade , had some fair form in handicaps on turf last season, including when finishing second over C&D in class 4  nursery handicap at Leicester last July.Should go well in what looks weak selling stakes.

Flat racing makes welcome return !!!

Good to see the flat turf racing back, after what has seemed a very long winter, with limited betting opportunities on the All Weather tracks.

Three flat cards on Wednesday two on the All Weather at Lingfield & Wolverhampton and one turf card from Catterick.

After studying the three cards ,there are no suitable betting opportunities  on Wednesday ,though Thursday & Friday look lot more promising .

Monday, March 28, 2011

Quiet start to the week !!!

Not great deal happening on the All Weather in early part of the week with no possible betting opportunities on Monday or Tuesday .Mondays six race card at Wolverhampton looks absolutely dire, even allowing for it being Monday ,with next to no runners in four of the races.

Wednesday see's the start of flat turf season at Catterick and though the first month of the season can be quite tricky,we will at least have plenty more betting  opportunities.

Weekly results / round up !!

Nice to finish the week on winning note ,with Nideeb winning the the winter Derby in good style on Saturday. After frustrating run of near misses its good to finally have winner.

Nideeb lands the winter Derby !!!

ClassyRobinson takes Winter Derby on Nideeb

PHILIP ROBINSON, 50 years young, got his new partnership with Clive Brittain off to a perfect start at Lingfield on Saturday as he ran out a clear winner of the Winter Derby on Nideeb.
It was the pair's first winner together since joining forces in February after Robinson left the employment of the retiring Michael Jarvis after two decades of service, although the association between Robinson and Brittain stretches back to the 1980s.
Robinson said: "It's nice to get the ball rolling. I hope he's improving and hope he can be classy on the grass. He could make up into a very nice horse."
Robinson demonstrated some of what he had learned in a long and successful career in a supremely confident ride on the 9-4 favourite.

He raced in a share of second - alongside Pachattack - in the early stages while Suits Me cut out a decent pace up front.
Robinson made his move on the turn to home, producing Nideeb to lead at the head of the straight and quickly opening up a two length gap as his rivals, who were frankly not in the same class as the winner, struggled to compose an adequate response.
Nideeb wandered slightly around the one furlong mark, giving the briefest glimmer of hope to the running on veteran Dansili Dancer, but that was snuffed out as the Brittain horse found his footing and came home a length and a half clear.Pachattackwas some distance behind in third.
"This was the plan for some time. I'll discuss things with [owner] Saeed Manana, but wouldn't be surprised if he went for Group 1 races," said Brittain.
"He's a useful horse and there are races in Turkey worth a lot of money. With prize-money as it is here I'm forced to go abroad."

Saturdays best bets !!

Plenty top class flat racing on Saturday with two All Weather meetings at Lingfield & Kempton plus the world cup meeting from Meydan .

Meydan has card packed with quality which includes four group one races and three group two races, including the worlds richest race the Dubai World cup worth a staggering 10 million dollars ,as normal the races look very competitive  .Always interesting watching these top class races ,though never easy to find good betting opportunities.

Going concentrate on Lingfield's feature race the group 3 Winter Derby at 3.10

10 F WINTER DERBY GROUP 3 LINGFIELD 3.10
NIDEEB :Fast improver last season since switching to the All Weather ,won conditions race at Kempton in November beating Choc A Block by easy seven lenghs ,followed that winning decent looking  listed contest over C&D  beating the highly regarded Luca Cumani trained Summit Surge (Group 2 Winner at York) .Lost nothing in defeat last time when beaten short head in listed race at Kempton  over 12 furlongs by Luca Cumani trained Cheetah.

VERDICT : Not the strongest looking Winter Derby with only three horses rated in the 100's .

DANSILI DANCER has highest BHA rating 110 and had some decent form last season ,including  winning listed race at Kempton ,though all his best form has been over 12 furlongs and hasn't won over this distance for nearly 5 years. Will need fast run race to win at this trip

PACHATTACK improving mare won two Fillies & Mares listed races last season on turf and an impressive winner last time in Canada at Woodbine on the polytrack in stakes race, though has only contested fillies & Mares races and has been beaten all five times when contesting group three races.

NIDEEB looks to have strong claims, winning listed race over C&D in November beating the useful Summit Surge in fast time .Looks open to plenty improvement now returning to his ideal trip. With question marks about his two main rivals, 11-4 looks fair price.

Wednesday & Thursday blank !!!

Not great deal happening over the next two days on the All Weather ,with just one evening card on Wednesday, which consists of seven handicaps and one maiden race, with no possible betting opportunities on the card.

Thursday looks much the same again just one evening card at Kempton ,with no suitable betting opportunities.

Friday & Saturday looks lot more promising ,with Lingfield staging there feature All Weather meeting of the season on Saturday ,which includes the Group three Winter Derby and two decent looking listed races.

Tuesday, March 22, 2011

Frustrating run continues !!!

Frustrating run of results continued on Tuesday with My Mate Mal finishing third in 1 mile 4 furlong selling stakes ,trading as short as 1-5 in running with betfair ,though found very little off the the bridle and had to settle for third place.Loss of £40.00 / 0.40 PTS  on the day.

Checking through the last five bets:
(0 WINNERS) (4 PLACED ) (1 UNPLACED) ,not too much damage done in terms of losses, considering its five bets without win - (£314 /3.14 PTS), though the most frustrating part is that three of those horses traded well odds on in running without winning.

In running prices below :
MY MATE MAL (1-5) 3RD
UNCLE DERMOT (1-2) 2ND
SWIFT BIRD (1-7) 2ND

Not too concerned with having five losers in row ,as there are likely to be lot worse losing run through the year ,though a change of luck would be most welcome.

Tuesdays best bets !!

One All Weather card on Tuesday on the fibresand at Southwell ,going concentrate on the 1 mile 4 furlong selling stakes at 4.05

1 MILE 4 FURLONG SELLING STAKES CLASS 6 SOUTHWELL 4.05
MY MATE MAL : Dual course & distance winner at Southwell, winning two sellers back in February 2010 ,not won for over a year, though has finished second three times in handicaps, including finishing decent second in January behind five time course winner Stanley Rigby.Should go well in this weak looking selling stakes

VERDICT :Kipchak has been in good form, and looks the obvious danger after winning 1 mile 3 furlong selling stakes earlier this month at Southwell ,also has excellent record in Sellers winning 3 from 4,though is unproven over this 1 mile 4 furlong trip.

MY MATE MAL drops back into selling company for first time since winning back to back sellers in February 2010 .Has proven record over Course & Distance and trainer William Stone has been in decent form this year on the All Weather .At around 3-1 looks fair value.

Weekly results / round up !!

Saturdays bet on Uncle Dermot finished a close second in 7 furlong maiden stakes at Lingfield ,slightly unfortunate to bump into an above average newcomer from the Ed Dunlop stable, with the odds on favourite well beaten in third ,no real damage done on the race with £20.00 loss on the day  .

Overall a very quiet week on the All Weather with very few betting Opportunities ,which has to be expected with the Cheltenham festival, obviously being the main focus.

The start of the flat turf season is under two weeks away, and we should hopefully have plenty more betting opportunities over the upcoming  months.

Saturdays best bets !!

Not great deal happening this week , with hardly any suitable betting opportunities on the All Weather. Two All Weather cards on Saturday at Lingfield & Wolverhampton ,going concentrate on the 7 furlong maiden stakes at Lingfield

7 FURLONG MAIDEN STAKES CLASS 6 LINGFIELD 2.20
UNCLE DERMOT : Good second last time over C&D only beaten 1/2 lengh behind Bosambo and 10 lenghs clear of the third ,that looks fair form  with the winner rated 77 .Also finished decent second last October on turf in class 4 handicap at Goodwood behind Double Dealer.Should go well in this weak looking maiden.

VERDICT :Lucky Meadows looks the big danger after finishing promising third on Debut in maiden at Newmarket over 7 furlongs on soft ground, finishing 6 lenghs behind the very useful Michael Stoute trained Havant, looks open to plenty improvement after just one run, though did flash her tail and didn't  look completely straight forward and looks very short in the market at around 6-5.

At the prices UNCLE DERMOT looks decent each-way value ,with solid form over C&D and the Brendan Powell stable also in good order .

All eyes on Cheltenham !!!

The day jump racing fans have been waiting for ,the start of 2011 Cheltenham festival ,with some fantastic racing over the next four days at Presbury Park.

The racing is top class at Cheltenham ,though it can often pay to have cautious approach at these big meetings ,its never easy to come out on top over four days.Good luck to all the bloggers with there selections at Cheltenham.

On the All Weather just the one card at Southwell ,with no suitable betting opportunities and no bets on Tuesday.

Saturday, March 12, 2011

Weekly results / round up !!

Disappointing end to the week ,with Saturdays bet on Restless Bay finishing disappointing fifth after getting shuffled back early in race and then not getting the clearest of runs ,could never really get into contention finishing never nearer fifth.

Five furlong races can sometimes go like that, it was still disappointing effort only finishing fifth in what was lower class race than Restless Bay had been running in.

Not been great week with -£254 / 2.54 pts loss, with no winners from three bets this week ,though two of the three bets did finish placed .

Overall its been consistent start to the year with 6 winners and 17 out 21 bets finishing in the first three. No spectacular profits, but steady enough start to 2011.

THE RESULTS :

Saturdays best bets !!

Wolverhampton stage a decent quality All weather card on Saturday, though most of the races look ultra competitive.Going concentrate on the one race that doesn't look too competitive the 5 furlong claiming stakes at 3.55

5F CLAIMING STAKES CLASS 5 WOLVERHAMPTON 3.55
RESTLESS BAY :Three time course winner ,been in great form over the last month, winning twice and finishing second twice.Good winner over C&D in class 5 handicap back in February beating Rylee Mooch.Ran fair second last time off mark 81 at Southwell in 5 furlong class 4 handicap behind the progressive Monsieur Jamie with three todays rivals behind.

VERDICT : Dandy Nicholls runs three in this claimer with Dream Catcher looking the best of the three, had some decent form last season in France winning four times ,though hasn't reproduced anything like that form so far this year, did finish behind Restless Bay last time at Southwell.

Sugar Beet who won twice last season for Roger Charlton ,changed hands for 13,000 gns at October Newmarket sales ,though has been well beaten on both starts for Ron Harris, including finishing behind Restless Bay last time at Southwell ,though is well treated at the weights and looks possible danger.

RESTLESS BAY is in good form and goes particularly well here at Wolverhampton, with all three career wins coming at the track, should go well dropping into claiming company for first time.

Poor tactics !!!

Thursdays bet on Opinion Poll was slightly disappointing only finishing third at Meydan, again given far too much ground to make up in slowly run race .

Ahmed Ajtebi seemed to ride an identical race to last time giving the horse an impossible task trying to make up so much ground.

Very poor tactics by Ajtebi who has given the horse two poor rides in my opinion , I guess in the circumstances Opinion Poll did well to finish third.Nevermind not to much damage done, could been a lot worse. loss on the day £34.00

On to Fridays racing just one All Weather evening card at Wolverhampton ,no possible betting opportunities on Friday .

Saturday looks lot more promising with good looking card from Wolverhampton ,featuring a very decent seven furlong listed race and interesting looking 5 furlong claiming stakes.

Thursdays best bets !!

On Thursday we just  have one All Weather card at Kempton Park and another top quality card from Meydan, with no suitable bets at Kempton, going concentrate on the 2 mile group three contest at Meydan.

2M GROUP 3 DRC GOLD CUP MEYDAN 4.30
OPINION POLL : High class stayer, won three times in 2010 when trained by Michael Jarvis, including winning the group two lonsdale cup at York in August.finished the season with credible third in group one Prix Royal Oak at Longchamp in October.

Ran well on both occasions this season for Mahmood Al Zarooni ,finishing second both times here at Meydan ,looked very unlucky last time when finishing neck second behind Claremont in 1 mile 6 furlong listed race ,was given what looked poorly judged ride by Ahmed Ajtebi ,giving the horse far too much ground to make up in slowly run race, finished very strongly from last place and would won in another stride. Will be suited by the return to 2 miles.

VERDICT : Whispering Gallery won handicap over 1 mile 6 furlongs at Meydan back in January beating Opinion Poll by three quarters of lengh ,though was well beaten in this race last year behind Sabotage and appeared not to get home over 2 miles that day.

The main danger could be Mikhail Glinka who won last years group three Queens Vase at Royal Ascot over 2 miles when trained by Aidan O'Brien and ran fair second last time in handicap at Meydan and will be suited by return to 2 miles.

OPINION POLL can make amends for his unlucky defeat last time at Meydan, looks sure to be suited by the return to 2 miles.

Close but no cigar !!!

Monday's bet on Swift Bird was bit frustrating finishing very close second only beaten head behind the heavily gambled on favourite Insieme ,after trying to make all the running, just getting worn down near the finish.

Slightly surprised that horse drifted so much in betting going off 4-1 chance, though with best price guarantee that most bookmakers offer ,thats never going be a problem.

There was late jockey change Liam Jones replacing Jamie Spencer ,no real complaints was given good  ride by Liam Jones just unable to hold on near the finish. No damage done on the race with just £20.00 loss on the day.

On to Tuesdays racing just one All Weather card at Southwell ,though after going through the meeting there are no suitable betting opportunities, on what looks a very competitive eight race card.

Monday, March 07, 2011

Mondays best bets !!

Just the one All Weather card on Monday at Lingfield Park ,going concentrate on 1 mile fillies maiden stakes at 5.00

1 MILE MAIDEN FILLIES STAKES CLASS 6 LINGFIELD 5.00
SWIFT BIRD : Made promising debut last July at Newbury finishing seventh of  20 in decent looking 6 furlong maiden behind the Richard Hannon trained Celebrity. Was then sent off odds on favourite to win 7 furlong maiden at kempton 11 days ago ,was given plenty to do that day, though did stay on quite well to finish close 4TH only beaten 1.75 lenghs. The step up to 1 mile should suit.

VERDICT : The John Gosden trained Judgement looks the main danger ,after finishing promising third in 7 furlong maiden at Wolverhampton back in November, though looks short in market at around 6-4 mark ,though should improve over this longer trip.

Insieme finished fair 4TH in 1 mile maiden at Yarmouth on soft ground back in October ,though has to prove himself running on poly track for first time.5-2 looks on short side for horse that has only ever ran on soft ground .

SWIFT BIRD looks open to plenty improvement over this longer trip, with Jamie Spencer looking an eye catching jockey booking for this small stable, also his only ride of the day.
5-2 looks very fair value in this uncompetitive maiden.

Another quiet weekend !!!

Not great deal happening over the next few days, after going through both All Weather cards on Friday there are no possible bets at either meeting.

Field sizes has been problem  all winter long on the All Weather ,and again on Friday we have five non handicap races, with no race having more than seven runners, in fact Wolverhampton have three races with four or less runners.Very disappointing !!

Saturday & Sunday we have no All Weather flat racing ,so its going be another quiet few days , with no possible bets till Monday !!

On a positive note it has been another winning week ,one bet and one winner ,with Sharp Shoes winning on Wednesday at 11-4 in selling stakes, making this the 5TH winning week this year from eight weeks.

Wednesday, March 02, 2011

Good start to the month !!

Good start to the month with Sharp Shoes winning nicely at 11-4 in five furlong selling stakes at Wolverhampton, for tidy  £330 / 3.30 profit on the day, also nice to see champion jockey Paul Hanagan come back with winner .

Paul Hanagan and Sharp Shoes after winning the selling stakes at Wolverhampton !!!

On to Thursday's racing ,two All Weather cards at Southwell and Kempton and very decent card at Meydan, though after studying all three cards there are no good betting opportunities on Thursday.

Meydan stage very high quality meeting ,which includes no less than five group races ,including the return of Twice Over & Poets Voice, though these are very interesting races, there are no suitable betting opportunities on the card.It will just be watching brief on Thursday !!

Wednesdays best bets!!

Two All Weather cards on Wednesday at Wolverhampton & Kempton ,going concentrate on the 5 furlong selling stakes at Wolverhampton.

VERDICT : Ridley Didley looks danger on his win in claimer at Southwell back in January beating both Sharp Shoes & Residency and looks well treated in this seller receiving 5lb off his main two rivals.SHARP SHOES was very impressive winner over C&D in December and returns to Wolverhampton for first time since that win .Looks sure go well with Paul Hanagan looking very positive Jockey booking.

Thoughts of March & April !!!

Start of another month as we move into March ,not great deal happening on the first day of the month with no suitable betting opportunities at Lingfield.

January and February are normally my quietest months of the year ,though been bit disappointed with the lack of decent betting opportunities on All Weather this winter, field sizes being the main problem, hopefully there will be few more opportunities in March.

Only just over four weeks away to the start of flat turf season ,though April can be tricky month with the season just getting under way ,we should at least have plenty more betting opportunities.
