Dubai World Cup Preview (Three recommended bets )(Sat 25th March 2023)

The Dubai World Cup is a Thoroughbred horse race held annually since 1996 and contested at the Meydan Racecourse (Arabic: ميدان) . The race is operated through the Emirates Racing Authority (ERA) whose Chairman is Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, It offers nine races, consisting of eight Thoroughbred contests and one Purebred Arabian contest.

The event currently offers purses totalling US30.5 million and is the single richest day of Thoroughbred racing in the world. The Dubai World Cup Night includes the following races:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dubai Gold Cup sponsored by Al Tayer Motors (Group 2) (Turf) (3yo+) Winner £500,000 16 runners 2m Good RTV

race conditions  £833,333 guaranteed For  northern hemisphere 4yo+ and southern hemisphere 3yo+ Weight for age  4yo from 5yo+ 3lb Penalty value  1st  £500,000.00 2nd  £166,666.67 3rd  £83,333.33 4th  £41,666.67 5th  £25,000.00 6th  £16,666.67

JBB FORM RATINGS :
1) SISKANY (112) (2) ARDAKAN (110) (2) ENEMY (110) (4) GET SHIRTY (109)

This looks very competitive contest with 15 runners declared for Dubai Gold Cup over 2 miles .

The Charlie Appleby trained Siskany has been made clear favourite, after winning the 1M 6F G3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy in good style at Meydan last month. That looked decent effort beating Ardakan by 2L in course record time, though all his best form has been over1M 6F or shorter and there has to be question mark over this 2 mile trip ,having appeared not to get home over 1M 7F in G3 Red Sea Handicap at Riyadh back in 2022 when last tried over longer trip.Looks short enough in market to me, for horse unproven over 2 miles

2022 Italian Derby winner ARDAKAN looks interesting over this 2 mile trip, after finishing creditable 2L second to Siskany in Nad Al Sheba Trophy last time, staying on well in closing stages .Had previously shown some fair form in Germany for former trainer Marcus Klug, including finishing placed in group one company .Looks open to further improvement over this longer trip, having been purchased by Austalian connections for possible Melbourne Cup bid.Odds around 7/1 look decent each-way value especially with bookmakers paying 4 places .

Of the others Enermy & Get Shirty both have place claims at decent odds ,after finishing 2nd & 3rd in the valuable G3 Red Sea Handicap over 1M 7F at Riyadh last month ,that looked decent staying contest, won by the useful  Japanese horse Super Sonic .
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dubai Turf sponsored by DP World (Group 1) (Turf) (3yo+) Winner £2,500,000 16 runners 1m1f Good ITV4

race conditions  £4,166,667 guaranteed For  northern hemisphere 4yo+ and southern hemisphere 3yo+ Penalty value  1st  £2,500,000.00 2nd  £833,333.33 3rd  £416,666.67 4th  £208,333.33 5th  £125,000.00 6th  £83,333.33

JBB FORM RATINGS :
1) LORD NORTH (119) (1) DO DEUCE (119) (3) SERIFOS (118) (3) REAL WORLD (118)

Dual Dubai turf winner LORD NORTH should go well for the John & Thady Gosden team ,having won the race for last two years .Has followed the same path again this year, using the Winter Derby at Lingfield as prep race .Winning that G3 contest in good style last month .Connections have reported the horse more forward this season , having had rushed preparation when dead heating in the race last year ,.though this looks stronger race this year ,should make bold bid to land the hatrick.Odds around 11-2 look good each-way value, especially with bookmakers paying 5 places .

The two Japanese raiders Do Deuce & Serifos have to be respected, having both won group one races last season .Do Deuce won the the Japanese Derby over 1M 4F beating the useful Equinox at Tokyo back in May ,though this 9 furlong trip would be the bare minimum having shown his best form over 1M 4F .Serifos has shown his best form over mile ,winning the Mile Championship at Hanshin in November ,should stay this extra furlong and looks the main danger from decent draw .

Of the others Real World had some decent form last season ,twice finishing second to Baaeed in group one company ,though was nowhere near that level on his reappearance, when finishing well beaten 10th in Jebel Hatta .Should improve for his first run for 9 months ,though will need to bounce back to his very best form to land this group one contest .
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dubai World Cup sponsored by Emirates Airline (Group 1) (Dirt) (3yo+) Winner £6,000,000 15 runners 1m2f Fast ITV4

race conditions  £10,000,000 guaranteed For  northern hemisphere 4yo+ and southern hemisphere 3yo+ Penalty value  1st  £6,000,000.00 2nd  £2,000,000.00 3rd  £1,000,000.00 4th  £500,000.00 5th   £300,000.00 6th  £200,000.00

JBB FORM RATINGS :
1) ALGIERS (122) (2) COUNTRY GRAMMER (121)

15 Runners declared for big the big race ,the $12 million dollar Dubai World Cup .

Last years winner Country Grammer  is sure be popular with Frankie Dettori taking the ride again for American trainer Bob Baffert, finished good second in Saudi Cup last month ,finishing strongly from off the pace.Won the race last year in good style beating Hot Rod Charlie by 1.75L ,has to be respected though this years race does look lot stronger contest.

The fast improving six-year-old gelding ALGIERS has looked different horse this season on the dirt at Meydan, bolting up by 6 lenghs in both starts in group two company ,including winning the mile Al Maktoum Challenge R1 in January ,that looks very strong form with (2nd),(4th),(5th),(12th) &(13th) from that race all winning next time .Made no mistake when odds on favourite in R2 of the Al Maktoum Challenge over 9.5 furlongs ,beating the 110 rated Bendoog by 6 lenghs in quick time (0.72 fast).Has to overcome wide draw in stall (13) ,though has won both starts this season from outside gates, so shouldn't be major problem for horse that comes from just off the pace .Odds around 4-1 look solid each-way value.

Front runner Panthalassa  was game winner of the Saudi Cup last month ,making all from stall (1) beatIing the fast finishing Country Grammer by just under lengh ,though is going struggle to dominate this field from such wide draw in stall (15) .

Cafe Pharoah could be best of the Japanese runners ,having finished staying on third in Saudi Cup last time , has decent record in Japan on the dirt (7 out 11) The extra furlong should suit .Each-way claims .
