Changes to the blog

From Friday 1st March there will be few changes to the blog .With the claiming bets having completely dried up this year the blog has become rather redundant .With this in mind I will now be introducing my trading flat bets  ,which should add bit more interest to the blog .

These bets have always made me consistent profits over last few years and I will now be posting all these bets on the blog .

For the purpose of the blog I have have few guide lines that I will be following :

Starting with £1000/ 20 points betting bank:
Staking will be £50 per trade / £30 profit on each winning trade :
All trades will be in races with 7 or less runners :
Maximum 4 trades per day :

Will give more details on Friday from around midday .

Claiming Thoughts !!!

Since the start of the year the claiming races have been disappointing, with the lack of runners making it very difficult to find suitable betting opportunities.Trying to find any value in four and five runner races is never easy .

Trainers seem reluctant to run horses in the claiming races this year on All Weather, with nearly every race having under 6 runners.The main two reasons being the bad weather and very low prize money in claiming races.

Having specialized in the claiming races since December 2011 ,the profits have been satisfactory with £1524 profit from 68 bets and over 25% return on investment .However the first two months this year have been very poor with £617 / 6.17 pts loss.

I have to admit the start of the year has been bit of struggle,the bets haven't performed up to my normal standard ,though with there being only five bets this year the main problem has been finding any decent betting opportunities in the claimers  .

I have decided to make few changes to the blog before the start of the turf season in April.Hopefully in the mean time we can turn things around with few winners.

Moving onto Wednesday we have three claiming races ,though all three races look uncompetitive races with small fields .

The first claiming race the 10 furlong claiming stakes at Lingfield at 1.30 .Just three runners here for three year old claimer .Strictly on official handicap ratings this looks tight little race .

ITS ONLY BUSINESS  has been in great form winning 4 of last 5 starts and is unbeaten in claiming company 3 out 3 .Looks the one to beat if staying this longer trip.However backing Odds on shots that are unproven over the trip is not recommended .

The second claiming race the 5 furlong claiming stakes at 2.00 Lingfield with five runners declared . HARMOODY has been in good form recently winning twice at Wolverhampton and only just touched off in class 4 handicap over course & distance last time .Should be difficult to beat returning to claiming company .Odds around 11-8 look fair in this little field .

Over at Kempton we have 7 furlong claimer with 6 runners at 6.30 .HURRICANE SPIRIT has  great record in claiming company winning 4 out 5 ,and looks well treated at the weights.The only  concern is this shorter trip not won over 7 furlongs since December 2006.However is not short of pace and should cope with drop back in trip .Odds around 5-6 are about right in weak race .

No  bets for the blog today as I don't recommend  anything under 5-2 ,though both HARMOODY & HURRICANE SPIRIT look to have very solid chances.

Friday 15th January Claiming Bet !!!

On Friday we have 9 furlong 0-75 classified claiming stakes on poly track at Wolverhampton with eight runners declared .

6.30 WOLVERHAMPTON 9 FURLONG 0-75 CLASSIFIED CLAIMING STAKES This looks competitive 0-75 classified claiming stakes with six course & distance winners in the race.The two strongest contenders look to be .Refreshtheparts & Yourinthewill .

REFRESHTHEPARTS : Course & Distance winner in apprentice handicap earlier last month ,beating Aragorn Rouge in good style by 1.75 lenghs .Disappointing effort last time ,though appeared not to stay 12 furlongs .Should go well returning to this more suitable shorter trip .

YOURINTHEWILL : Dual Course & Distance winner at Wolverhampton .Finished good second last time in 9 furlong claimer at Wolverhampton only beaten short head behind multiple claiming winning Hurricane Spirit .


VERDICT: YOURINTHEWILL has put in three solid efforts over this course & distance recently and was only just touched off last time in decent claimer ,behind the proven claiming winner Hurricane Spirit. 

Refreshtheparts is consistent filly and looks the main danger now returning to her best trip and goes particularly well for 7lb claimer Aaron Jones.

Of the others Faithful Ruler should be thereabouts after winning his last two starts in selling and claiming company ,though this looks much stronge claiming race

Wednesday 6th February Claiming Bet !!

On Wednesday we have 1 mile 0-70 classified claiming stakes on fibresand at Southwell .This looks very wide open claimer with five of the eight runners being course winners .

3.40 SOUTHWELL 1 MILE 0-70 CLASSIFIED CLAIMING STAKES
8 runners declared for 1 mile claimer on the fibresand at Southwell .The three main contenders look to be  Caledonia Prince , Bold Mark & Electrician .

CALEDONIA PRINCE : All three wins over course & distance at Southwell ,been running consistently on poly track recently ,finishing placed on last two starts in handicap company .Faces  no easy task off top weight ,though will be suited returning to fibresand .

BOLD MARK :Dual course & distance winner at Southwell ,the last win coming in seller back in November .Not shown great deal in three selling races on poly track recently,though will be suited returning to fibresand and looks well treated off  bottom weight .

ELECTRICIAN : Had shown some decent form for John Gosden in 2011 ,though completely lost his way, till winning 10 furlong seller at Lingfield in January .Finished fair second in 1 mile seller at Lingfield last time .Should be thereabouts if handling the fibresand ,though this looks stronger race.

VERDICT: This looks very competitive classified claimer with plenty course specialists .Favourite Caledonia Prince has been in fair form recently and should go well returning to Southwell ,though faces no easy task at these weights .10-3 doesn't look great value in wide open race.

BOLD MARC will need to bounce back after couple disappointing efforts on poly track ,though his last two wins came over this course and distance and looks well treated off 8 stone 4LB .Hayley Turner riding for first time also looks interesting jockey booking .Odds around 5-1 look fair each-way value .

Of the others Electrician & Fluctuation both have possible chances ,though Electrician has to prove he can handle the fibresand & Fluctuation will need bounce back after running poorly on his last five starts .

Quick Update

January was stop start month ,with the bad weather making things very difficult last month in the claiming races .

Overall it was disappointing month with no winners from three bets for £500 / 5.00 pt loss.However these poor months do happen and the blog is still well over £7000 in profit since starting in 2010 . 

Hopefully we can get back on track in February and there should be few more betting opportunities this month .

On Friday we have two claiming races ,though both races look uncompetitive races .

 The 9 furlong claimer at Wolverhampton 4.50 .HURRICANE SPIRIT has excellent record in claiming races ( 3 out 4 ), looks well treated at the weights in this claimer ,though once again odds around 5-4 make little appeal . No bets on Friday ,though hopefully we will be back in action soon .
