Newmarket Guineas Festival

On Saturday we have the start of the two day Guineas Festival at Newmarket . I will be traveling down early Saturday morning, for two fantastic days racing on Rowley Mile course .

Plenty decent races over the two days ,though going concentrate on three races . 2000 Guineas ,Dahlia Stakes & 1000 Guineas

10 Runners declared for 2000 Guineas over the straight Mile at Newmarket on ground described as Good/firm .The three main contenders are Barney Roy , Churchill & Eminent .

BARNEY ROY : 3-Y-0 Bay Colt ,winning 2 out 2 .Made impressive debut last season winning 1 mile maiden at Haydock in September .Looked top class prospect ,when winning the G3 Greenham Stakes at Newbury last month ,in very fast time.Should go well ,with the return to mile sure to suit .

CHURCHILL : 3-Y-0 Bay Colt , winning 5 out 6 .Champion two-year-old last season , including winning G1 Dewhurst at Newmarket in October.Should be suited by this longer trip ,on seasonal reappearance . Obvious claims for top connections .

EMINENT : 3-Y-0 Bay Colt ,winning 2 out 2 over C&D at Newmarket, including winning the G3 Craven Stakes in good style ,in very fast time .Looks open to plenty improvement after two starts .Should be thereabouts ,each-way claims .

VERDICT : Churchill is sure be popular for A.P O'BRIEN stable, going for eighth victory in the race ,though odds around 5-4 look no value ,for horse making his seasonal reappearance in hot looking race .

At the prices BARNEY BOY looks solid each-way value .Looked very useful sort ,when winning the Greenham Stakes in good style .That looks very decent form ,beating the 109 rated Zainhom by 6 lenghs .Will be suited returning to this longer trip .Odds around 9-2 look good value .

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

9 Runners declared for 1M 1F group two Fillies & Mares Dahlia Stakes on Sunday at Newmarket .The three main contenders are Muffri'Ha ,Nezwaah & Somehow .

MUFFRI' HA : 5-Y-0 Mare, winning 5 out 23.Had some useful form in 2016,including winning the G3 Darley Stakes over C&D at Newmarket in October.Been in decent form this season at Meydan, finishing placed three times in group company, including finishing close 3RD in G1 Jebel Hatta .Should go well ,returning to Newmarket .

NEZWAAH : 4-Y-0 Filly, winning 3 out 7 last season, including winning Listed race at Newcastle in June .Also finished good 2ND behind the useful So Mi Dar at Yarmouth in September .Disappointed on both starts in group company ,though can't be totally ruled out.

SOMEHOW : 4-Y-0 Filly ,winning 4 out 9 .Had some useful form over last two seasons ,including winning G3 Snow Fairy stakes at Curragh by 7 lenghs .Also made winning reappearance in 9F listed Stakes at Gowan Park last week .Should go well ,if handling this faster ground .

VERDICT : MUFFRI'HA should go well returning to Newmarket over C&D .Lost nothing in defeat when only beaten half-lengh in G1 Jebel Hatta behind Decorated Hero in March and found the 7 furlongs at All Weather championships too short last time .Can return to winning ways over this more suitable trip .Odds around 4-1 look decent each-way value .

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

14 Runners Declared for 1000 Guineas for three-year-old Filly's on Sunday at 3.35 .The three main contenders are Daban , Rhododendron & Winter .

DABAN : 3-Y-0 Bay Filly ,unbeaten in two starts over 7F ,including winning the Nell Gwyn at Newmarket last time .Showed good turn foot in closing stages, to win with bit in hand .Will need to show more improvement over this longer trip ,though should be thereabouts .

RHODODENDRON : 3-Y-0 Bay Filly ,winning 3 out 5 .Had some useful form last season ,including winning G1 fillies Mile over C&D at Newmarket in October .Looked impressive stepping up to mile for first time . Should go well with ideal conditions .

WINTER : 3-Y-0 Bay filly ,winning 1 out 4 .Made promising reappearance, finishing close 2ND in G3 1000 Guineas trial at Leopardstown ,behind stablemate Hydrangea .Looks open to improvement over this trip .Each-way claims .

VERDICT : RHODODENDRON stands out on form ,after being impressive winner of Fillies Mile over C&D at Newmarket last Autumn .Looked to relish the longer trip on fast ground .Should be difficult to beat with ideal conditions .Odds around 2-1 look solid value .
