The blog returns for eighth consecutive season .We will again be concentrating on class 1 & 2 flat races .Hopefully we can have another profitable year in 2017 .
On Thursday we see the start of the Dubai Carnival at Meydan .For the blogs first bet in 2017 we are going concentrate on Longlines Passion In Equestrian handicap, on dirt over 9.5 furlongs at 3.40 .
9 runners declared for 9.5 furlong ( 95-115 ) handicap on the dirt at Meydan. The three main contenders look to be SALTARIN DUBAI,STORM BELT & TOP CLEARANCE .
SALTARIN DUBAI : South American import , winning three times in 2016 at Palermo in Argentina ,including winning in group one company .Not easy to weigh up that form, and has not raced since June 2016, though looks interesting runner for Mike De Kock stable .
STORM BELT : Decent 8-Y-0 ,winning 5 out 25 on All Weather surfaces , including winning twice here at Meydan .Produced career best effort last time ,when bolting up in 10 furlong listed race .Obvious claims returning to handicap company, though has been raised 6LB in weights .
TOP CLEARANCE : Former American import ,winning 3 out 9 on All Weather surfaces ,including winning 1 mile handicap at Meydan last season , off mark 100 .Finished fair second behind Storm Belt last time, running on at finish, despite not getting clearest of runs and being forced to race wide .Should get lot closer on 7LB better terms .Each-way claims .
VERDICT: Storm Belt will be popular after bolting up in listed company last time at Meydan, though faces no easy task returning to handicap company off mark 110 , having been beaten in handicaps off lower marks last season .Odds around 7-4 look too short .
At the prices TOP CLEARANCE looks the each-way value , having finished promising second last time at Meydan .Won decent handicap here at Meydan last season ,and looks fairly treated off mark 104 . Odds around 7-1 look solid each-way value .
