Weekly / Monthly review !!

Been disappointing week with two bets at Glorious Goodwood both running very poorly ,Delegator finishing last of 9 in Lennox stakes on Tuesday and Redwood only managing fourth in Glorious stakes on Friday .

Overall July has not been great month with only one winner from 10 bets and too many seconds and thirds .Glorious Goodwood was very disappointing this year with loses of £502 on the week ,not sure why but found the meeting very difficult this year, with very few good betting opportunities.

JULY RESULTS :

1) HANDSOME FALCON              (4-1) £132 EACH-WAY (UNPL)-£264
2) OFF CHANCE                             (7-2)£125  EACH-WAY (3RD  )-£301

Glorious Goodwood Day 5 !!!

Final day at Glorious Goodwood with the group one Nassau stakes the feature race at 3.10 ,will be interesting to see if the Sir Henry Cecil trained MIDDAY can win the race for third time ,though will have to bounce back after disappointing run in Pretty Polly stakes at Curragh last time .

The other six races on Goodwood card look very tough with some very competitive handicaps including the big sprint handicap Stewards Cup with 27 runners going to post. Will just be watching brief on final day at Glorious Goodwood with no suitable betting opportunities on the card.

Glorious Goodwood Day 4 !!!

Day 4 of Glorious Goodwood looks quite interesting with some good looking group races plus the Totesport mile .Going concentrate on first race on the card the Group 3 Glorious stakes over 1 mile 4 furlongs.

1MILE 4F GLORIOUS STAKES GROUP 3 GOODWOOD 2.00
REDWOOD : Consistent 5 year old .won this race last year before going on to win group one Northern Dancer stakes at Woodbine in Canada .Been consistent again this year finishing second behind the ill-fated Rewilding in Dubai, slightly disappointing last time when finishing 8 lengh second behind Crystal Capella in G2 Prince Wales stakes at Newmarket ,though should come on for that run first run for over 3 months.

VERDICT :Redwood & Harris Tweed look the two main contenders  in this group 3 contest.

Harris Tweed looks big danger after finishing good second behind Await the Dawn in G2 Hardwick stakes at Royal Ascot on soft ground.Should again make bold bid from front ,the only slight question mark is fast ground ,all his best form has been on soft surface.

REDWOOD never seems to run bad race and should go well with ideal conditions, 1 mile 4 furlongs on fast ground. The Barry Hills stable seems in lot better form over past week .3-1 looks very fair value with bet365 who paying 1/4 odds 1-2-3

Glorious Goodwood Day 3 !!!

What an amazing performance by Frankel in Sussex stakes yesterday ,must go down as one of the best milers of all time after that performance. Will be interesting to see where he goes next with the Queen Elizabeth 11 stakes at Ascot looking his likely target.

Day 3 at Glorious Goodwood again looks  difficult with some very competitive races ,with the two feature races being group two Goodwood cup over 2 miles and Audi King George stakes over 5 furlongs. Both races look very wide open (5-1 the field) with several horses having live chances. Not really my kind races and Thursday will again just be watching brief with no suitable betting opportunities.

Glorious Goodwood Day 2 !!!

Disappointing start to Glorious Goodwood with Tuesday's bet on Delegator running an absolute stinker finishing last of nine behind impressive winner Strong Suit .Not sure what happened to Delgator though for some reason simply didn't run his race, very disappointing and loss £256 on the day.

Moving on to day 2 at Glorious Goodwood the highlight of the week the G1 Sussex Stakes,in whats being called "The duel on the downs" FRANKEL V CANFORD CLIFFS .With only four runners this looks like being tactical race and not easy to separate the pair ,though with FRANKEL receiving 8LB could just have slight edge in what looks fascinating contest.

The other six races on the Glorious Goodwood card look very tough, with some very competitive races .Will just be watching brief on day two at Glorious Goodwood with no suitable betting opportunities

Glorious Goodwood Day 1 !!!

Tuesday see's the start of five excellent days racing at Glorious Goodwood with three group races on Day one .Starting with the Group 3 Gordon stakes at 2.35 ,followed by Group 2 Lennox stakes at 3.10 & Group 3 Molecomb stakes at

Going concentrate on the days feature race the group two seven furlong Lennox Stakes at 3.10 ,with all firms already pricing the race up will preview the race today.

7F GROUP TWO LENNOX STAKES GOODWOOD 3.10
DELEGATOR : High class three year old finishing second in 2000 guineas behind Sea the Stars and also good second behind Mastercraftsman in Group one St James Palace stakes at Royal Ascot .Slightly disappointing last season after winning listed race at Newbury in September ,though bounced back to form winning 6 furlong group 2 Duke of York stakes at York in May .Looked unlucky last time finishing fifth of 16 behind Dream Ahead in group one July Cup ,not getting clearest of runs from bad draw. Will be suited by return to 7 furlongs.

VERDICT :Interesting group two contest with three main contenders ,Strong Suit ,Delegator ,Librano.

Strong Suit should go well after winning G3 Jersey stakes at Royal Ascot and finishing close third in G1 Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly.Looks the main danger receiving 11lb off Delegator.

Libranno front runner, won group three contest at Newmarket last month ,and did finish nose in front of Delegator in July cup ,though had the best draw against the rail that day and will struggle to confirm the form .

DELEGATOR has to concede weight all round ,though looks the class act in this group two contest having shown top form in group one races. The return to 7 furlongs looks sure to suit . 3-1 looks good value.

Been quiet week with just the two bets, slightly disappointing today's bet on Sunnyside Tom couldn't hold on getting caught near finish(head) by 16-1 outsider Solar Spirit with -£52.00 loss on the day .

Wednesdays best bets!!

Plenty rain about over past few days making it quite tricky to find any solid selections ,On Wednesday we have four flat cards at Catterick ,Lingfield & two evening fixtures Leicester and Sandown.Going concentrate on the 5 furlong claiming stakes at Catterick.

5F CLAIMING STAKES CLASS 6 CATTERICK 4.40
SANDS OF DEE: Been in good form this season for Dandy Nicholls winning claimer at Hamilton in June beating Dancing Freddy .Followed that with good second last time behind stablemate Saucy Brown in claimer at Hamilton only beaten head ,that form has been boosted with Saucy Brown winning competitive class 4 handicap at York next time.Should go well with ideal conditions.

VERDICT : Interesting sprint claimer with ground conditions likely to be quite testing, with the Dandy Nicholls pair Fol Hollow & Sands of Dee looking the two main contenders.

Strictly on BHA handicap ratings Fol Hollow has quite bit in hand in this claimer being rated 84 and did win handicap at Thirsk  in 2010 off mark 93,though has looked disappointing in four starts this season and did get well beaten in class 6 claimer at Hamilton in May .At the prices looks worth taking on with soft ground conditions not sure to suit.

On paper SANDS OF DEE looks to have stiff task at these weights, 15lb worse off with Fol Hollow than he would be in handicap ,though looks the only runner in this race in any kind form and has good record in claiming races over past two years( 2112).With plenty more rain  forecast will love the soft ground conditions and looks the value bet against short price favourite.

Weekly results / round up !!

Bitterly disappointing run from Lastkingofscotland in 1 mile claiming stakes at Lingfield this evening finishing well beaten Sixth.

Not sure what happened with Lastkingofscotland seem to be travelling OK in early part of the race though found absolutely nothing with two furlongs to run  .With the favourite Song to the Moon also being non runner, didn't seem have a lot to beat in that weak looking race ,though for some reason ran absolute stinker. Most disappointing with -£276 loss on the day.

On positive note it still ended up winning week with £314 profit. With Eijaaz winning the 1 mile 4 furlongs claiming stakes at 4-1 at Catterick on Tuesday.

Saturdays best bets !!

Another  busy Saturday with five flat cards with Newbury & Newmarket staging the feature cards, some interesting races at both meetings with the G3 six furlong Shadwell stakes at Newbury the days feature race ,though this looks very competitive race .

Going concentrate on much less competitive race at Lingfield's evening card the 1 mile claiming stakes at 8.25

1 MILE CLAIMING STAKES CLASS 6 LINGFIELD 8.25
LASTKINGOFSCOTLAND :Four time course winner who goes particularly well here at Lingfield.Won three races this year at Lingfield including two handicaps .Been running consistently on turf this season finishing good second at Lingfield in June .Looks well treated in this claimer and will be suited returning to poly track at Lingfield.

VERDICT : This looks quite weak claimer with only three serious contenders, Song to the Moon,Lastkingofscotland & Barista

Song to the Moon, looks the main danger after winning 4 races on turf this season including 2 out 2 in claiming races ,though has poor record on poly track no wins from 6 starts.Has to be respected though looks no value at around 6-4 mark for horse unproven on the surface.

Barista ,looks well treated at weights and finished good second behind Tevez in 7 furlong  class 4 handicap at Leicester earlier this month ,though has very poor record over this trip (0 from 6) finishing unplaced five times and also shown very little on poly track .

LASTKINGOFSCOTLAND,Looks to have plenty in his favour in this weak looking claimer ,has proven record over course & distance at Lingfield .Both his main two rivals have question marks on poly track .At the prices LASTKINGOFSCOTLAND looks good value at 10-3 with Boylesports.

Good result !!!

After a few near misses so far in July, we had good result yesderday with Eijaaz winning 1 mile 4 furlong claiming stakes at Catterick ,landing nice gamble 4-1 into 5-2 for tidy £590 profit on the day. That puts us back in profit in July with £227 profit.

As from Thursday July 7th all my selections are also posted on www.bettingleague.co.uk under jerryb123.This website is free to join and proofs all tipsters selections .So far so good on the bettingleague after three selections +7.90 points profits. There will be no changes to the blog all my bets will still be posted on here as well.

On to Thursdays racing we have five flat cards at Bath ,Leicester,Hamilton ,Doncaster and Epsom ,after going through the five meetings there are one or two interesting races ,though most these races have smallish fields and will wait for better opportunity on Friday or Saturday.

Wednesdays best bets!!

Three flat cards on Wednesday at Catterick,Lingfield & evening fixture from Sandown park .Going concentrate on the 1 mile 4 furlong claiming stakes at Catterick.

1M 4F CLAIMING STAKES CLASS 6 CATTERICK 3.20
EIJAAZ : Course specialist with excellent record in claimers at Catterick (21111232) .Won claimer at Redcar last month beating Just Five by neck .Finished fair second last time behind Light the City in class 6 handicap at Catterick .Should go well with ideal conditions .

VERDICT : Interesting little claimer with three main contenders Hels Angel ,Relative Strength  & Eijaaz .

Hels Angel ,Dual C&D winner who looks very well treated in this claimer with BHA rating of 72 .Won over C&D in claimer in early May beating Eijaaz and Relative Strength.Meets both them rivals on much better terms ,though is not most reliable horse and has been well beaten on his last two starts .At around 5-4 look far too short.

Relative Strength has won twice this season on All Weather at Lingfield & Wolverhampton ,though has never won on turf from 16 starts.Finished well beaten on his last two starts on turf.

EIJAAZ has got quite bit to find  with Hels Angel on these terms ,though is in good form and much more consistent type horse, never seems to run bad race here at Catterick .At around 4-1 looks good each-way value against the short price favourite.

Weekly results / round up !!

Overall a slightly frustrating week with two seconds and one third .All three bets ran fair enough races without winning .

The first bet of the week was on OFF CHANCE on Tuesday at Pontefract in 1 mile fillies and mares listed race .In slowly run race OFF CHANCE finished strongly for third. Not too many complaints as the race was not run to suit and in the circumstances did well to finish third. Loss- £37.00 on the day.

Second bet was at Newmarket on Thursday REDWOOD in G2 Prince of Wales stakes ,no excuses here finished well beaten second behind the impressive winner Crystal Capella who bounced back to her best winning by easy eight lenghs .Loss -£31.00 on the day .

Final bet of the week was at Newmarket on Friday SAHPRESA in G1 Falmouth Stakes ,this was most disappointing result of the week finishing second, given what I thought was very poor ride by C.Lamaire.Was set an impossible task trying to make that sort ground up in slowly run race.Loss -£31.00 on the day .

Fridays best bets!!

Thursday's bet on Redwood finished well beaten 2nd behind the very impressive winner Crystal Capella who bounced back to form for Sir Michael Stoute .Not to much damage done with loss £31.00  on the day.

Another incredibly busy Friday with five flat cards at Newmarket ,York ,Newbury ,Chepstow & Chester .Why we need all these top tracks racing on the same day is anyone's guess.

Going  concentrate on the days feature race the 1 mile group one Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket at 3.00

1 MILE G1 FALMOUTH STAKES FILLIES & MARES 3.00 NEWM.
SAHPRESA : Top class french mare who seems to handle any ground .Won the G1 Sun Chariot at Newmarket for the last 2 years .Looked as good as ever when winning  G3 contest at Longchamp last month beating Moonlight Cloud easily giving that rival 14lb .Moonlight Cloud boosted that form by winning G3 contest last week.

VERDICT : Not the strongest renewal of G1 Falmouth stakes ,with only River Jetez ,Lilly of the Valley & Sahpresa having won G1 races .

River Jetez  had some decent form at Meydan  finishing good second in G1 Dubai Duty free behind Previs .Also finished good second last time in G1 international cup in Singapore behind Gitano Hernando.Should go well and looks main danger

Lilly of the Valley was very decent 3 year old last season winning 5 times, including winning G1 Prix De l ' Opera at Longchamp ,though drop back to 1 mile may not suit and was slightly disappointing on her seasonal reappearance finishing well beaten fifth at Longchamp.

SAHPRESSA is very reliable mare at this level having already won two group one races on Rowley mile course at Newmarket .Will be difficult to beat if she reproduces last seasons Sun Chariot form 3-1 looks very good value.

Thursdays best bets !!

Plenty of racing on Thursday with five flat cards including the start of the three day July festival  at Newmarket .Going concentrate on the feature race the 1 mile 4f  G2 Prince of Wales stakes.

1 MILE 4F G2 PRINCE WALES STAKES NEWMARKET 3.00
REDWOOD : Useful globetrotting 5 year old who ran some excellent races in 2010 ,including finishing second in this race last year behind Sans Frontiers.Went on to win G1 Northern Dancer stakes at Woodbine in Canada and finish second in G1 Hong Kong vase at Sha Tin in December .Ran good second on his seasonal reappearance in G1 Sheema Classic at Meydan behind the very useful Rewilding who has since boosted the form by winning at Royal Ascot.

VERDICT :Decent looking group two contest with the three main contenders being Crystal Capella ,Redwood & Laheeb .

Crystal Cappela has excellent strike rate in fillies and mares group races ,though was slightly disappointing on her seasonal reappearance in listed race at Haydock and finished well behind Redwood in Hong Kong vase last season .

Laheeb won three times in 2010 including winning Fred Archer stakes over C&D at Newmarket ,has looked slightly disappointing this season( beaten 3 times)  finished 2 lenghs behind Redwood in Sheema Classic at Meydan in March ,though does have an excellent record at Newmarket and has to be respected.

REDWOOD  had some decent form in group one races last season .Ran excellent second on his reappearance behind Rewilding and will be difficult to beat if he can reproduce that form in this group two contest.3-1 with Ladbrokes looks very fair value.

Tuesdays best bets !!

Three flat cards on Tuesday at Pontefract ,Wolverhampton and evening card at Southwell ,why we have two All Weather cards in the middle of summer is anyone's guess .Going concentrate on the days feature race  the 1 miles fillies and mares listed race at Pontefract.

1MILE FILLIES AND MARES LISTED RACE PONTEFRACT 4.00
OFF CHANCE :Won this race in 2010 beating Please Sing and Tropical Paradise, ran good second on her seasonal reappearance back in April behind the useful St Moritz only beaten half lengh in listed contest at Doncaster .Finished creditable fifth of 18  behind St Moritz last time in listed handicap at York beaten just under two lenghs off mark 100.

VERDICT :Decent fillies and mares listed race over 1 mile with Dark Promise ,Off Chance and Law of the Range looking the three main contenders .

Dark Promise ,fast improving filly winning her last three starts, including winning 1 mile class 3 handicap at Newmarket last time in good style, off mark 86 .Still looks open to plenty improvement though this quite step up in class and at around 7-4  looks no real value.

Law of the Range ,won her last two races in decent class 2 handicaps at Ascot and Sandown.Looks to be improving with every race ,though up in class has to be respected.

Last years winner OFF CHANCE looks very solid with proven record in listed races.Twice finishing behind the very useful St Moritz this season in listed races. Will be suited returning to this much stiffer track at Pontefract .7-2 looks very fair value.

Weekly / Monthly results round up !!!

June finished up very decent month, in fact the best month of year so far and big improvement on the previous two months. Very pleased with the consistency of the bets in June with 40 % win strike rate and 90 % win & place strike rate.

Quite happy how the new staking plan worked in the first month showing £82.00 bigger profit than level £100 each / way stakes.Still very early days with the new staking format though promising start.

Another blank Saturday !!

Friday's bet on Handsome Falcon in 7 furlong selling stakes was very disappointing only finishing fifth. With over two furlongs to run was travelling best of all  and looked the likely winner trading as short as 1-2 in running ,though stopped very quickly inside last furlong ,most disappointing effort .Loss on the day £264.

On to Saturdays racing we have six flat cards .Sandown & Haydock stage the feature cards with some top quality races ,though both cards look very competitive with some tough looking races and no suitable betting opportunities and its going to be another blank Saturday.

Fridays best bets!!

Start of another month as we move into July with plenty racing on Friday with five flat cards .Going concentrate on evening fixture at Beverley and the first race on the card  7 furlongs selling stakes at 6.30

7F SELLING STAKES CLASS 6  BEVERLEY 6.30
HANDSOME FALCON : Course & distance winner and goes particularly well here at Beverley ,ran decent 2nd over C&D in class 5 handicap in early May behind My Gacho.Has disappointed on his last two starts in better company. Will be suited by drop in class into selling company for first time.

VERDICT :Interesting little selling  stakes that looks to concern only four runners Hogmaneigh ,Handsome Falcon ,Kipchak and Glenmuir.

Hogmaneigh is well clear on BHA ratings and will be very difficult to beat if he stays this extended 7 furlongs ,though that's the  big question mark and its nearly 3 years since his last win.

Both Kipchak & Glenmuir are consistent sorts and can't be ruled out ,though both have bit to find at the weights.

HANDSOME FALCON should go well in this selling stakes , looks to have ideal conditions, proven winner over course and distance and now dropping into selling company for first time .4-1 looks decent value .
