No Luck last Saturday with two seconds at Newcastle , frustrating day with Dubai Honour looking very unlucky loser when repeaterly denied clear run in Churchill Stakes,though that's racing as they say . 

Moving on to Sunday we have cracking group one contest .The 44th running of the Japan Cup from Tokyo .

The Japan Cup (ジャパンカップ, Japan Kappu, JPN G-1) is one of the most prestigious horse races in Japan. It is contested on the last Sunday of November, post time of 15:40 /6.40 GMT at Tokyo Racecourse in Fuchu, Tokyo at a distance of 2400 meters (about 1+1⁄2 miles) run under weight for age conditions with a maximum of 18 horses on turf (grass). With a purse of ¥1,085 million (about US$8.3 million), the Japan Cup is one of the richest races in the world.^[2]

The Japan Cup is an invitational event. During a relatively short history, the race has established itself as an international contest with winners from Japan, North America, Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, France, Germany and Italy.

The Japan Racing Association established the Japan Cup as an international invitational race in order for local racehorses to have the opportunity to compete against horses of an international calibre and to promote goodwill within the racing community worldwide.

The French raider GOLIATH stands out on his King George V1 form at Ascot in July, that was impressive perfomance beating the subsequent ARC winner Bluestocking and Breeders Cup Turf winner Rebels Romance in good style .Unable to run in the ARC being gelding ,the Japan Cup has been his main target for some time .Made winning return in G2 company at Longchamp last month .Handles most types of ground, having won on good/firm and heavy. Odds around 6-1 look fair each-way value .

 

Six time group one winner Auguste Rodin looks one the main contenders on his best form, though has become bit inconsistent this season, including finishing well beaten 10L fifth behind Goliath in King George,  though did finish creditable second in Irish Champion Stakes behind Economics in September .

 

Best of the Japanese horses look to be Do Deuce & Cervinia .

The three-year-old filly Cervinia looks interesting runner after winning her last races in G1 company , including winning Japanese Oaks over C&D in May .Returned after five month break to win the G1 Shuka Sho in October, has to be respected receiving 9lb from her main rivals, though odds around 11-4 look short enough taking on some top class older male rivals for first time.

Do Deuce  is useful sort on his day, finished fair fourth in this race last year behind Equinox, also won the G1 Tenna Sho last time over 1M 2F, though was soundly beaten twice in France last season on soft ground. Every chance on pick of his form ,though odds around 10-3 dont make much appeal.

Good start to All Weather season , with nice William Haggas double landed on Wednesday at Lingfield, with over 18pts profit .

Moving on to Saturday, Interesting All Weather card from Newcastle , with two decent looking listed contests to start the card .

The Churchill Stakes is a Listed flat horse race in Great Britain open to horses aged three years or older. It is run over a distance of 1 mile and 2 furlongs (2,012 metres). From 2000-2023 it was run at at Lingfield Park in November. However as part of the policy of running down and diminishing the racing programme at Lingfield Park, from 2024 the race will move to Newcastle Racecourse. Given Sir Winston Churchill's links to the area surrounding Lingfield - his residence at Chartwell and his stud at West Park Road Newchapel, on the outskirts of Lingfield village, less than two miles from Lingfield Park - it is a disgrace that this race was moved to the North East of England. However, Arena Racing Corporation know best.

The William Haggas trained six-year-old gelding DUBAI HONOUR , looks the class act here having already won in G1 company this season in Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud , also finished creditable second in G1 in Germany in September.Lightly raced on All Weather , though bolted up in listed company at Kempton in April .Has to race under 7lb G1 penalty , though should take plenty of beating with this big drop in class .Odds around 9-4 look very fair value .

 

The progressive five-year-old Peaceman  looks the main danger , after finishing close second in listed company at Newmarket two weeks ago , that was decent effort only beaten nose behind the 112 rated Bolster . Gets handy 7lb pull in the weights with Dubai Honour , though not raced on All Weather since his debut in 2023 . Interesting contender .

Del Mar Breeders Cup 2024 Preview

The Breeders' Cup World Championships is an annual series of Grade I Thoroughbred horse races, operated by Breeders' Cup Limited, a company formed in 1982. From its inception in 1984 through 2006, it was a single-day event; starting in 2007, it expanded to two days. All sites have been in the United States, except in 1996, when the races were at the Woodbine Racetrack in Canada.

The Breeders’ Cup is one of the richest two days in sports, with $34 million paid out in purses and awards over the entire weekend. Winnings are paid out to owners, stallion nominators, and foal nominators. Owners are paid through the tenth finish position and share their winnings with their trainer and jockey on their own terms.

Del Mar, “Where the Turf Meets the Surf,” will serve as the World Championships host site for a third time. With its breathtaking location, Del Mar is unique in its picturesque natural backdrop, and its village town center promises to attract domestic and international visitors seeking beautiful beaches, award-winning cuisine, and boutique hotels.

The Del Mar Fairgrounds is an event venue in Del Mar, California. It hosts the annual San Diego County Fair. The venue sits on a 370-acre (1.5 km²) property along the Pacific Ocean coastline. It includes the Del Mar Racetrack, built in 1936 by the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, with founding member Bing Crosby providing leadership.^[1]

 

Del Mar runs all of its races left-handed. It has a one-mile oval with chutes for seven furlong and ten-furlong races. There is also a turf course that is a a seven-eighths mile oval with a diagonal straightaway chute for 8.5 furlong races and 9 furlong races.

As far as track trends go, it changes around but generally speaking the dirt races have a little bit of an outside flow, or perhaps more accurately, the rail is often not the place you want to be.

The Aidan O 'Brien trained Content looks possible danger on her early season form , including winning the Yorkshire Oaks on fast ground , though will need to bounce back after two disappointing on soft ground .
