Meydan Carnival Week Five (Two Recommended Bets ) Fri 3rd Feb 2023

Meydan Carnival week five. The best card of the Carnival so far with four group races ,including Cape Verdi ,Singspiel Stakes and Al Makoum Challenge R2 .All very decent group two races .

Just quick recap on last weeks action. Not great week with £100/1.00 PT loss ,the only selection Discovery Island running very disappointing race in Firebreak Stakes, though well supported in market 3-1 into 7-4,was never travelling after slow start and just didn't handle the sloppy conditions on the dirt, with non stop rain all day at Meydan the conditions were horrendous .

Hopefully the weather stays fine this week, for what looks excellent card at Meydan .

JBB FORM RATINGS :

1)ALGIERS (116) (2)REMORSE (112) SALUTE THE SOLDIER (110)

The Simon & Ed Chrisford trained 6-Y-0 gelding ALGIERS  stands out after bolting up by 6L in G2 Al Maktoum challenge last month at Meydan. That form has been boosted with Prince Eiji only fifth in the race ,winning last week in G3 Firebreak stakes. The return to this longer trip shouldn't be problem having won over further last season .Odds around 7-4 look solid value .

Of the others Remorse looks the main danger ,having finished good second to Hypothetical in G1 Al Maktoum challenge on Super Saturday last season .Made winning return in listed company at Meydan in December ,though will need improvement to land this G2 contest .

JBB FORM RATINGS

1) VALLIANT PRINCE (115) (1) OTTOMAN FLEET (115) (1) SHELIR (115)

Interesting G2 contest. The Charlie Appleby trained Valliant Prince has been put in favourite at around 2-1 ,after winning the G2 Al Rashidiya over C/D at Meydan last month .Goes particularly well here Meydan winning 3 out 3 .Should go well again ,though odds around 2-1 look short enough in such competitive race .

At the prices the David O' Meara trained SHELIR looks the each-way value ,finished excellent half-lengh second behind the useful Master Of The Seas in G2 Zabeel Mile two weeks ago ,finishing strongly from off the pace in course record time .Should be suited by this 9 furlong trip .Odds around 12-1 look decent e-w value .

The other Charlie Appleby runner  Ottoman Fleet  can't be ruled out ,after staying on nicely last time behind stablemate Valliant Prince ,though beaten odds on favourite that day, wasn't beaten far and should improve for first run of the season.Looks closely matched with Valliant Prince on that form.
