1.45 Wolverhampton 9.5f Betway Handicap (C2) 0-105

On Boxing Day we are back at Wolverhampton for interesting class two 9.5 furlong handicap on the tapeta at 1.45 .

8 runners declared for the Betway (0-105) handicap .This looks good quality (AW) contest .The three main contenders look to be Battle Of Marathon , Mount Tahan & Emenem .

BATTLE OF MARATHON : 5-Y-0 Bay gelding ,formerly trained by Aiden O 'Brien .Winning 2 out 25 .Had some useful form in 2016 ,including finishing second in Listed Paradise Stakes at Ascot .Lightly raced on All Weather ,though returned to form last time winning class three handicap over C&D at Wolverhampton .Up 3lb in weights, though still very well treated on old form.

MOUNT TAHAN : 5-Y-0 Bay gelding ,winning 3 out 27 .Lightly raced on All Weather ,though has finished second on all three starts, including finishing excellent second in strong class two handicap over C&D last time at Wolverhampton .Up 2lb in weights ,though still looks open to further improvement on All Weather .

EMENEM : 3-Y-0 Bay colt ,winning 4 out 10 on All Weather .Consistent sort ,been in decent form this winter ,including winning 10f class 3 handicap at Lingfield last time .Has bit to find with Battle Of Marathon on previous form over C&D at Wolverhampton, though should be thereabouts off 3lb higher mark .

VERDICT: BATTLE OF MARATHON has put in two decent efforts over C&D at Wolverhampton recently.Still looks nicely treated off mark 95,having been rated much higher last season ,including finishing close second in listed company at Ascot .Odds around 9-2 look solid each-way value .

Mount Tahan looks the main danger ,after finishing just in front of Battle Of Marathon at Wolverhampton last month ,though meets that rival on 6lb worse terms. Also the Kevin Ryan stable are struggling for winners .

TROPICS : Nine-year-old chestnut gelding ,winning 8 out 35 .Very useful sprinter back in 2014/15 ,including finishing close second in 2015 (G1) July Cup .Not the force of old ,though still capable at this level .Lightly raced on (AW) though finished good second in 6f handicap at Newcastle last time .Should be thereabouts ,though hasn't won since June 2015 .

Good start to December with Castlelyons landing nice gamble (6-1 into 2-1) in class two handicap at Wolverhampton on Saturday evening. For a tidy £216.00 profit .

That keeps the excellent run of results going, with 10 winners from the last 20 bets for £1526 profit to recommended stakes .

Moving on to Wednesday we have interesting class three fillies handicap at Lingfield .9 runners declared for 32Red.com Fillies 7f Handicap (0-90) on the poly track at 12.10 .Not bad looking class three fillies contest .The three main contenders are Summer Icon,Favourite Royal & Temeraire .

SUMMER ICON :  4-Y-0 Bay filly, winning 1 out 9 on All Weather, also finished placed 6 times .Had some fair form last season ,including winning class 3 handicap over C&D at Lingfield, off mark 87 .Returned to form on last two starts on All Weather ,including finishing creditable third at Chelmsford last week .Will be suited returning to Lingfield over C&D .Solid each-way claims .

FAVOURITE ROYAL 4-Y-0 Bay filly ,winning 2 out 5 on All Weather .including winning 1 mile class 4 handicap at Lingfield last time .Looks fairly treated off 3lb higher mark .Should be thereabouts ,though the drop back in trip may not be ideal .

TEMERAIRE : 3-Y-0 Grey filly, winning 1 out 3 on All Weather, formerly trained in France, changed hands for 44,000 euro's in July.Made winning debut for Hugo Palmer, bolting up in weak 6 furlong maiden at Lingfield last month. This longer trip should suit ,looks well treated off mark 76 .

VERDICT : Temeraire looks an interesting contender for Hugo Palmer, after bolting up on British debut in 6f (C6) maiden, beating the 68 rated Trotter by 4.5 lenghs .Looks on decent mark (76) on her british handicap debut ,though this is much stronger race .Has to be respected ,though odds around 11-8 look very poor value, for horse moving up three classes .

Course & Distance winner SUMMER ICON goes well here at Lingfield, including finishing third in this race last year .Looked on her way back when finishing creditable third at Chelmsford last week .Looks nicely treated off mark 85 ,with claimer Paddy Bradley taking off handy 5lb .Odds around 11-2 look decent each-way value .

MIXBOY : 7-Y-0 grey gelding ,winning 2 out 3 on turf .Fair sort on the jumps, winning three chases in 2016/17 .Lightly raced on flat ,though bolted up in 12f class 4 handicap at Catterick last time .Looks open to improvement on All Weather debut ,though races of 11lb higher mark.Interesting contender .

CASTLELYONS : 5-Y-0 bay gelding ,winning 2 out 8.Lightly raced sort formerly trained in Ireland.Changed hands for 170,000 guineas at Newmarket sales, after winning maiden at Cork in 2015 .Bounced back to form last time ,winning 12f class 3 handicap on the All Weather at Kempton in fast time.Looks fairly treated off 4lb higher mark .

VERDICT : Mixboy will have plenty of supporters after winning handicap by 6L at Catterick last time ,though the handicapper has taken no chances putting him up 11lb for that victory .Odds around 11-4 look short enough for horse unraced on All Weather surfaces .

At the prices CASTLELYONS looks the each-way value ,after winning 12f class 3 handicap at Kempton last time .That looked fair effort in decent time (0.60 slow ) Looks open to further improvement on All Weather after just four starts .Odds around 6-1 look solid value .
