4.45 Curragh 1M Lanwades Stud Stakes G2 (Sat 27th May )

After short break the blog returns on Saturday, for Irish Guineas weekend Festival at Curragh ,with the highlight the Irish 2000 Guineas at 4.10 ,though it looks like Churchill has scared off all the opposition ,with disappointing turn out with only 6 runners .

For the  blogs best bet,we are going concentrate on one the main supporting races at Curragh. The 1 mile Lanwades Stud Stakes at 4.45 .

5 runners declared for 1 mile fillies & mares G2 contest .The three main contenders are Opal Tiara ,Raymonda & Turret Rocks .

OPAL TIARA : Four-year-old filly ,winning 5 out 19 .Been in good form in 2017 ,winning the 9F G2 Balachine Stakes at Meydan in February. Also finished creditable fourth in Bet365 mile at Sandown last time .Should go well returning to fillies & mares company  .

RAYMONDA : Four-year-old filly ,lightly raced sort ,winning 2 out 4 .Finished creditable second in G3 Amethyst Stakes at Leopardstown on seasonal reappearance earlier this month.Just getting touched off by Custom Cut .Looks open to plenty improvement this season .

TURRET ROCKS : Four-year-old filly ,winning 3 out 11 . Bounced back to form winning the 10 furlong G3 Blue Wind Stakes at Curragh last time. Had some useful form as two-year-old ,including winning G2 May Hill Stakes .Should be thereabouts ,though the drop back in trip, may not be ideal .

VERDICT :  OPAL TIARA looks over priced at 9-2,being 2LB clear on official ratings .Has shown some useful form this season ,including winning in G2 company at Meydan .Lost nothing in defeat last time, when finishing staying on 2L fourth in group two Bet365 Mile at Sandown, against male rivals .Should go well back in this fillies and mares race .

BARNEY ROY : 3-Y-0 Bay Colt ,winning 2 out 2 .Made impressive debut last season winning 1 mile maiden at Haydock in September .Looked top class prospect ,when winning the G3 Greenham Stakes at Newbury last month ,in very fast time.Should go well ,with the return to mile sure to suit .
