On day three at Glorious Goodwood ,we are going concentrate on the feature race the 2 Miles Goodwood Cup at 3.10
14 runners declared for group two Goodwood Cup on ground described as good/firm.This looks quality staying contest. The three main contenders are Big Orange , Curbyourenthusiasm & Sword Fighter .
BIG ORANGE : Useful middle distance / stayer .Winning 6 out 17 ,including winning this race last year .Been in good form this season,winning the G2 Princess Of Wales stakes at Newmarket in good style last time .Obvious claims returning to this longer trip .
CURBYOURENTHUSIASM : Improving 5-Y-0 Gelding ,winning three times last season . Made promising reappearance in Yorkshire Cup last time ,finishing close 2ND behind Clever Cookie .That wasn't the strongest G2 contest ,though looks open to improvement over this longer trip .
SWORD FIGHTER : Progressive 3-Y-0 colt , winning 3 out 6 ,including winning Queens Vase at Royal Ascot & Curragh Cup .Showed much improved form since stepping up to staying races .Looks an interesting contender ,receiving plenty of weight .
VERDICT : BIG ORANGE looked as good as ever when landing the Princess Of Wales stakes at Newmarket earlier this month .Has proven record in this grade,winning three times in group two company .Should make bold bid to land this race for second year running .Odds around 4-1 look solid value .
Sword Fighter looks possible danger receiving 17LB ,after winning Curragh Cup last time ,though this is much stronger race, and no three year old has won this race since 1990.
