Keeneland Breeders Cup Day Two

Slightly frustrating run at the minute, with Fridays bet on Alice Springs finishing second in Breeders Cup Juvenile turf.

In the circumstances ran fair race ,after being slowly away and then not getting the best of runs, though could never get to American horse Catch A Glimpse in the closing stages. No real damage done with £10.00 loss on the bet ,though could do with winner, to end A frustrating run recently.

Moving on to Saturday we have nine Breeders Cup races at Keeneland ,though going concentrate on one race the Breeders Cup Mile .

12 runners declared for Breeders Cup Turf Mile on ground described as yielding .This looks cracking contest with plenty European interest .The three main contenders look to be the three French contenders :  Make Believe ,Impassable & Estoterique

7.30 KEENELAND BREEDERS CUP TURF MILE :
MAKE BELIEVE :Useful French 3-Y-0 colt, winning 4 out 6,including bolting up in French 2000 guineas in May,though finished very disappointing last of 6 in St James Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot .Bounced back to form last time, winning G1 Prix De La Foret on Arc Day .Should go well from good draw in stall 3.

IMPASSABLE : Improving French 3-Y-0 filly ,winning last three starts .Including winning G2 Prix Daniel Wildenstein at Longchamp last time ,beating Miss France comfortably .Takes step up in class ,though looks to be improving with each start .

ESTOTERIQUE: Useful French mare ,winning 6 out 16 .Has looked better than ever this season winning two G1 races ,including winning the Sun Chariot at Newmarket last time ,though probably ran best race in defeat when finishing  second to the very useful Solow at in Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot .Obvious claims with conditions to suit .

VERDICT: Three time group one winner ESOTERIQUE looks solid each-way bet ,has already beat male rivals in G1 company this season ,and lost nothing in defeat when chasing home multiple  G1 winners Solow & Muhaarar recently .Should also get the race run to suit, with ,plenty pace in the race . Odds around 5-1 look decent value .

Stablemate Make Believe looks the obvious danger, after breaking course record at Longchamp last time and looks open to plenty improvement ,though odds around 11-4 look short enough .

Keeneland Breeders Cup Day One .(Friday 30th Oct )

Bit of disappointing result on Thursday for the blog, with Sweeping Up finishing 2L fourth in River Eden Listed Stakes ,though staying on in closing stages, never looked like catching 16-1 winner Urban Castle. With £100.00 loss on the race.

Moving on to Friday we see the start of Breeders Cup .There has been plenty of rain at Keeneland, with ground conditions on the turf track described as soft .Going concentrate on the  Juvenile Fillies Turf Mile at 8.50 .

KEENELAND 8.50 1 MILE JUVENILE FILLIES TURF MILE :
14 runners declared for Breeders Cup  2-Y-0  Juvenile Fillies Turf Mile .The three main contenders look to be Alice Springs ,Catch A Glimpse  & Nemoralia

ALICE SPRINGS : Useful Irish Filly, winning 2 out 6 ,both over 7 furlongs .However produced a career best effort when finishing 1.25 lenghs third behind the useful Minding & Ballydoyle in G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes in September ,both winners since in G1 company .Looks well drawn in stall 3 .

CATCH A GLIMPSE : Won 2 from 3 starts ,including bolting up in 1 mile G2 at Woodbine last time. Not easy to assess that form ,though looks open to plenty improvement over this trip.

NEMORALIA :Won 2 from 5 starts ,including winning competitive 6.5 furlong handicap at Doncaster in September ,off mark 87 .Finished creditable second in G1 at Belmont Park last time on the dirt .Looks open  to improvement returning to turf .Each/way claims .

VERDICT :ALICE SPRINGS stands out on form, with her third in G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes looking excellent form .The step up to 1 mile should also suit .Ground conditions shouldn't be problem, having ran her best race on yielding surface .Odds around 3-1 look very fair price .

Not easy to assess the American horses ,though none them look outstanding on form, with Catch A Glimpse looking best of the bunch .

2.20 Lingfield 13F River Eden Fillies Stakes (Listed Race )

October has been quiet month for the blog ,though there should be plenty action over the next few days, with Breeders Cup starting on Friday and decent card from Newmarket on Saturday.

Going back to Thursday, for blogs main bet we are back on All Weather, for good looking 13 furlong listed race for Fillies & Mares .

13 runners declared for 1 mile 5 furlong listed race on the poly track at Lingfield .The three main contenders are Alwilda ,Desert Snow & Sweeping Up .

2.20 LINGFIELD 13F RIVER EDEN FILLIES STAKES LISTED RACE
ALWILDA : Won 4 races from 23 starts ,including winning 2 mile 3 furlong listed race in Germany last time at Cologne .Also finished good 2 lengh third in this race last year ,behind Hidden Gold .Has 3LB penalty for winning last time ,though should be thereabouts .

DESERT SNOW : Useful record on the All Weather last season, winning 3 out 4 (2111),including winning two handicaps .Finished respectable 8 lengh second to the useful  Journey in 12 furlong listed race at Newmarket last time .Should go well returning to the All Weather.

SWEEPING UP : Improving filly ,won 2 races from 4 starts on All Weather  .Showed improved form when finishing 3 lenghs second to useful Jack Hobbs in G3 Sepember stakes at Kempton over 12 furlongs .Also finished good second in 14 furlong listed race at Saint Cloud last time .Obvious claims returning to poly track .

VERDICT : SWEEPING UP looks the one to beat ,having shown solid form on her last two starts in listed & G3 company ,there looked no fluke about her 3 lengh second to Jack Hobbs in  September Stakes.Odds around 4-1 look very fair value, in not the strongest looking listed race .

Desert Snow has excellent strike rate on the All Weather and looks the main danger, though will need to show more improvement to win in listed company.

Of the others California has been put in favourite ,though will need to show plenty improvement over this longer trip ,having been well beaten over 10 furlongs last time in listed company .

1.55 Ascot G1 Qipco Fillies & Mares 12F (Saturday 17th Oct )

The blog returns after short break, for cracking card at Ascot for British Champions Day.Which includes four group one races .Going concentrate on G1 Fillies & Mares over 12 furlongs .

1.55 ASCOT 12F QIPCO FILLIES & MARES GROUP ONE :
12 runners declared for high quality G1 Fillies & Mares contest over 12 furlongs on Good/soft ground. The three main contenders look to be Candarliya , Covert Love & Sea Calisi .

CANDARLIYA : Improving 3-Y-0 French Filly, with excellent strike rate this season, since stepping up in trip, winning five times and finishing second twice.Produced career best effort when finishing second to the useful Treve in G1 Prix Vermeille .Looks open to more improvement and handles any ground .

COVERT LOVE : Useful 3-Y-0 filly, winning 4 out 5 on turf ,including winning the G1 Irish Oaks at Curragh in good style .Also won G1 Prix De L 'Opera at Longchamp ,beating Jazzi Top in close finish last time .Obvious claims on that form ,though did have hard race, last time in France 13 days ago.

SEA CALISI : Consistent French Filly ,winning 2 out 6 races , including winning 12F G2 at Saint Cloud in June .Finished creditable third in both G1 Yorkshire Oaks & G1 Prix Vemeille.Looks closely matched with Candarliya & Covert Love on that form .Solid each-way claims.

VERDICT Covert Love is very tough front running filly, and dual group one winner, and has to be respected, though had very hard race in France only 13 days ago,and is passed over.

French Filly CANDARLIYA has done nothing wrong this season, and looks to have ideal conditions here.Has excellent record over 12F (11121) and this race should also be run to suit, with plenty pace in the race .Looks solid each-way bet at around 5-1 mark .
