3.25 NEWBURY 5F 34YDS DUBAI WORLD TROPHY G3:
12 runners declared for competitive looking group three sprint on soft ground .The three main contenders are Justice Day , Steps & Wind Fire .
JUSTICE DAY : Won six races from 29 starts ,including Listed race at Ascot last October .Been in and out this season ,though bounced back to form last time, winning conditions race at Leicester in good style .Also finished good second in this race last year ,behind useful Mecca's Angel . Should go well with ground conditions to suit .
STEPS : Won 8 races from 44 starts ,including two listed races, returned to form last week winning Portland Handicap at Doncaster in good style ,off mark 108 .Also Goes well on soft ground ,though not the most consistent sort .
WIND FIRE : Won three races from 20 starts ,shown some useful form this season without winning ,finishing third in G3 the Temple Stakes at Haydock & second in G3 Coral Charge at Sandown . Should be thereabouts ,though unproven on soft ground .
VERDICT : Steps will be popular here ,after winning the Portland Handicap at Doncaster last Saturday under top weight, though is not most consistent performer and far from certain to reproduce that form back in G3 company .Looks worth taking on at top price 4-1.
JUSTICE DAY goes well here at Newbury ,including when finishing excellent second in this race last year .Looked back to his best last time, when winning decent conditions race at Leicester. With ground conditions in his favour, looks solid each-way bet at around 11-2 mark .
