Saturday 29th March Dubai Gold Cup & UAE Derby Bets

On Saturday we have cracking card from Meydan featuring 8 group races, including the Worlds richest race the six million Dubai World Cup .

With the bookmakers having already priced up all eight races ,there looks couple interesting bets .Going concentrate on two of the lesser races on the card the G2 Dubai Gold Cup & G2 UAE Derby .

1,45 MEYDAN 2 MILE DUBAI GOLD CUP GROUP TWO:
15 runners declared for Dubai Gold Cup over 2 miles .Plenty runners ,though not many strong contenders here .Simenon ,Cavalryman & Joshua Tree look the three main contenders.

SIMENON :Useful stayer on his day ,won twice at Royal Ascot in 2012 .Ran some decent races last season without winning ,including finishing good second behind Estimate in Ascot Gold cup & excellent fourth in Melbourne Cup .Should improve for first run of the season at Meydan ,though has plenty to find with Cavalryman .

CAVALRYMAN : Impressive winner of this race last year, beating Ahzeemah by easy 3 lenghs .Looked better than ever when winning the Nad Al Sheeba Trophy on reappearance at Meydan last time, beating Star Empire by over five lenghs .Obvious claims with conditions to suit.

JOSHUA TREE : Inconsistent sort ,though has some useful  International form ,including winning Canadian International three times at Woodbine. Also finished creditable second in this race in 2012 .Ran respectful sixth over inadequate 10 furlong trip in G1 race last time at Meydan .

VERDICT : CAVALRYMAN stands out here after bolting up last time at Meydan .Won this race last year in great style and should be difficult to beat with ideal conditions .Odds around 11-4 look very fair value .

Of the others Joshua Tree could go well at decent odds, having finished fair second in this race back in 2012 and looks the each-way value at around 9-1.

2.25 MEYDAN 1 MILE 1F 110YDS UAE DERBY GROUP TWO:
12 runners declared for UAE Derby over extended 9 furlongs on the tapeta. The three main contenders are Long John , Giovanni Boldini & Asmar .

LONG JOHN : Useful sort formerly trained in Australia .Impressive winner of UAE 2000 guineas on his first start at Meydan  ,beating the reliable Emirates Flyer by over 4 lenghs .However was disappointing when well beaten over this trip at Moonee Valley, back in October .

GIOVANNI BOLDINI :Improving sort ,Winning twice on poly track at Dundalk over 7 furlongs last season .However ran his best race last time when finishing close second in Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita in November ,behind the useful Outstrip .Should be suited by this longer trip .

ASMAR :Lightly raced sort ,though big improver last time when winning over C&D in listed race at Meydan .Has plenty to find with Long John on previous form ,though seemed to improve greatly over this longer trip .Can't be ruled out ,though is stepping up in class .

VERDICT : Long John will be popular here after bolting up last time ,though there remains big question mark about this longer trip and looks worth taking on at shortish price .

GIOVANNI BOLDINI looks solid here after finishing excellent second in juvenile mile Breeders Cup turf at Santa Anita back in November .Looks open to plenty more improvement this season and trainer Aidan O' Brien can land the race for the third time .Odds around 3-1 look decent value
