Thursdays best bets !!

Wednesday's bet on Porgy in 1 mile 4 furlong claiming stakes finished respectable third after being well supported in market 4-1 into 5-2 .The race was run at quite slow pace that didn't really suit Porgy who just had too much ground to make up in slowly run race and in circumstances did well to finish third.Loss on the day £31.00 .

On to Thursday's racing we have three flat cards at Warwick, Wolverhampton & another evening fixture at Kempton.Going concentrate on the 1 mile selling stakes at Wolverhampton at 3.30

1 MILE SELLING STAKES CLASS 6 WOLVERHAMPTON 3.30
SKY DIAMOND : Very consistent 3 year old ,who has been in good form this season winning twice and finishing second four times.Finished second on his last two starts in 1 mile claimers at Kempton & Lingfield .Looks well treated in this seller and looks sure to go well .

VERDICT :Low grade seller with very few in form horses. Whispering Spirit ,Sky Diamond & Flying Phoenix looking the three main contenders.

Whispering Spirit has decent record here at Wolverhampton winning four times won seller over C&D in July .Will be suited returning to this longer trip .

Flying Phoenix bounced back to form last time at Leicester winning 7 furlong seller and won 9f maiden here at Wolverhampton in February, though finished over 7 lenghs behind Sky Diamond at Kempton in August .

SKY DIAMOND is in good form and is very reliable in this grade .This seller looks lot weaker than the two claimers he finished second in on his last two starts .3-1 looks decent value in weak race.

Wednesdays best bets!!

Slightly frustrating result on Tuesday with Barista just getting caught (beaten head) in 7 furlong claiming stakes at Chepstow after being well supported in market going off 7-4 favourite.

Barista looked all over the winner inside final furlong trading as short as 3-10 in running ,though just couldn't hold off Opus Maximus near the line .Loss on the day £47.00

Moving quickly on to Wednesdays racing we have four flat cards at Nottingham,Salisbury ,Newcastle & evening fixture at Kempton .Going concentrate on t Kempton's evening fixture on the poly track  the 1 mile 4 furlong claiming stakes at 8.40

1 MILE 4F CLAIMING STAKES CLASS 6 KEMPTON 8.40
PORGY :Useful type in this grade, won three times this year including winning class 4 handicap over C&D in January .Won twice back in June in handicap at Goodwood and claimer at Beverley .Finished fair fourth last time in above average claimer at York over 1 mile 2f .Will be suited returning to this longer trip.

VERDICT : Not bad little claimer with three main contenders Scamperdale ,Porgy & Uphold.

Scamperdale is 3lb clear on official handicap ratings being rated 89 and ran decent fifth last time in class 3 handicap off mark 90 here at Kempton .Will be suited by this longer trip and this drop in class, though not won since February.

Uphold has won twice this season including winning handicap & claimer back in May & June ,though has shown very little on his last two starts ,finishing last of 11 last time at Hamilton .Will be suited by this drop in class ,though will need to bounce back.

PORGY has got little to find with Scamperdale at these weights ,though has proven record over C&D and has good record in claiming races winning 2 from 3. At around 4-1 looks good each-way value in not strongest looking claimer .With Scamperdale looking the obvious danger.

Tuesdays best bets !!

Just the two low grade flat cards on Tuesday at Ayr & Chepstow .Ground conditions at both courses are going to be very testing .

Good betting opportunities this time year are not easy to find ,though the 7 furlong claiming stakes at Chepstow does look quite interesting for class 6 race. With very few proven on soft ground.

7F CLASSIFIED CLAIMING STAKES CLASS 6 CHEPSTOW 3.00
BARISTA :Been in fair form this season winning seller over C&D earlier this month, also finished placed five times this season.Seems to go particularly well on soft ground and won back to back handicaps on soft ground around this time last year ,finished fair second earlier this month at Catterick in handicap behind Watts up son again on soft ground.

VERDICT : Competitive looking classified claimer ,though not many these proven on ground this soft .The three main contenders with proven form on soft ground Guilded Warrior ,Barista & Stevie Gee.

Guilded Warrior is dual C&D winner here at Chepstow on soft ground and knows how to win having won nine times .Won claimer at Epsom back in June ,though has shown nothing in handicaps on his last four starts .Will be suited returning to claiming company ,though will need to bounce back after some disappointing runs.

Stevie Gee bounced back to form last time at Wolverhampton winning claimer on poly track at Wolverhampton over 7f .Has proven form on soft ground ,has to be respected though not the most consistent of horses.

BARISTA is consistent type and looks to have his ideal conditions in this claimer .All his best form has been over 7 furlongs on soft ground .The Mick Channon stable has also been in fair form over past few weeks .Odds around 7-2 look very fair value.

Weekly results / round up !!

Not great deal been happening over past two weeks with only one bet again this week .The only bet was on the Friday on Seta in 1 mile fillies & mares listed race at Newmarket

Seta was very well supported in market 7-2 into 2-1, ran fair enough race finishing second though never really looked like catching Dark Promise who made all the running .Front runners seem to have big advantage at Newmarket that day. With four races on the card won by horses making all.

The last couple weeks have been slightly disappointing with losses of £369 ,though on positive note September is still showing small profit of  £278 .Hopefully there will be few more betting opportunities next week.

Fridays best bets!!

Been another very quiet week with very few suitable betting opportunities .On Friday we have top quality card at Newmarket which includes three group races including the group one Shadwell fillies mile for 2 year olds.

Going concentrate on one the lesser races on the Newmarket card the 1 mile fillies and mares listed race at 1.50

1 MILE FILLIES AND MARES LISTED STAKES NEWMARKET 1.50
SETA : Excellent record in listed races winning 3 from 4 .Won 1 mile listed race at Goodwood on her seasonal reappearance in April beating Anna Salai by easy 3.75 lenghs .Been slightly disappointing on her last three starts though has always struggled in group company .Will be suited returning to 1 mile in this listed contest.

VERDICT :Interesting fillies and mares listed race with four main contenders Soorah ,Seta, Dark Promise & Electra Star

Soorah has shown some decent form on her last two starts in handicaps, including finishing fourth in Totesport mile at Goodwood off mark 95 .Also won listed race at Ascot back in July .Should go well returning to listed company.

Dark Promise is very consistent winning 4 from 9 starts ,though has come up short on her last two starts in listed company .Will need to improve to win this decent listed contest .

Electra Star hasn't stopped improving all year winning three times in handicap company ,though her last win at Ascot only came off mark 87 .Needs more improvement stepping up in class ,though can't be totally ruled out .

SETA looks to have plenty in her favour having won three times in listed company .On official BHA handicap ratings is 4lb clear and will be suited returning to 1 mile. 4-1 was available with William Hills earlier this evening though that price quickly disappeared. 7-2 is still very fair value with Betfred.

Weekly results / round up !!

Very quiet week with only one bet on the Friday. Ponty Acclaim in five furlong  2-Y-0 listed race at Ayr ,the less said about that bet the better .Ponty Acclaim ran absolute stinker finishing well beaten sixth and was struggling before half way.

Not sure why the filly ran such bad race as she had already won on similar ground conditions and was well supported in market going off 9-4 second favourite ,all the same a most disappointing run.

Not great week with £322 loss though these weeks do happen from time to time. September is never the easiest month with ground conditions starting to change and the flat turf season coming towards climax with only seven weeks left .

Fridays best bets!!

Been very quiet week with very few suitable betting opportunities. Fridays racing looks much better with four flat cards at Ayr ,Newbury ,Lingfield and evening card at Wolverhampton.Going concentrate on the feature race at Ayr The Harry Roseberry listed stakes at 4.30

5F HARRY ROSBERY LISTED RACE 2-Y-0 AYR 4.30
PONTY ACCLAIM : Reliable filly winning three times this season from seven starts .Good winner of conditions race at Ripon last time beating Kool Henry by easy 3.75 lenghs .Should go well in this listed race with ideal conditions.

VERDICT : Interesting 2 year old listed race with just two main contenders Caledonia Lady & Ponty Acclaim .

Strictly on BHA handicap ratings Caledonia Lady has quite bit in hand 11LB clear, after finishing excellent third in group two Flying Childers at Doncaster  last time and previously third in Queen Mary at Royal Ascot ,though has still to win race from  6 starts and did get beat in maiden race at Ffos Las when 1-3 favourite back in August .At odds of around 5-4 looks far to short for horse yet to finish in first two .

PONTY ACCLAIM looks rock solid having already won three times this season .Won conditions race at Ripon last time in good style, 11-4 looks fair price in what looks quite weak listed race.

Weekly results / round up !!

Up and down week with one winner from three bets at Doncaster's St Leger meeting. The first bet was on Wednesday in 10 furlong conditions race on Elusive Pimpernel at 9-2 and looked to have ideal conditions ,though could only manage very disappointing fifth and is clearly a shadow of the horse that won the Craven stakes at Newmarket last year.Loss on the day -£328.00

The second bet on Thursday was on John Oxx trained Alanza at 3-1 in the 7F group three fillies & Mares Sceptre stakes.Alanza showed smart turn foot inside final furlong to get up close home and win by neck .Profit on the day + £581.00

The final bet of the week was on the Friday on Motrice at 5-1 in group two 2 mile 2 furlong Doncaster cup ,this just highlights the problem with each-way betting with bookmakers, placing bets the night before in 8 runner races. Before placing the bet I did realize there was possibility of non runner with Dayia only likely to run if the ground wasn't too firm. With the ground drying out it was no suprise Dayia was taken out .In hindsight should have waited till later in morning and backed Motrice with betfair for place who were still paying out on three places, would saved me to the tune of over £300 .In the race itself Motrice ran fair enough race in third ,though no match for winner inside final furlong.Loss on the day £340

Overall finished up losing week with loss of £87.00 ,though quite happy how bets have been running  over past 6 weeks ,could quite easily been winning week if things had worked out slightly different with Motrice race.

Doncaster St Leger Festival Day three !!!

Alanza comes with storming late run to land the group three sceptre stakes beating Dever Dream and Chachamaidee in close finish.Given great ride by Johnny Murtagh.

Nice to come back with winner on Thursday after yesterday's disappointment on Elusive Pimpernel and keeps the good run going with tidy profit on the day of £581

Moving on to day three at Doncaster we have no less than three group two races on Friday with Doncaster cup the feature race.

Going concentrate on the days  feature race the Doncaster cup which looks cracking looking race with 8 runners going to post.Hopefully there will be no non runners .

2 MILES 2F DONCASTER CUP GROUP 2 DONCASTER 2.25
MOTRICE :Won three times in 2010 before finishing third in this race last year behind Samuel with favourite Opinion Poll back in fourth .Right back to her best last time when winning the 1 mile 6 furlong listed race at Goodwood in good style.

VERDICT : Interesting race which looks to concern just the two runners Opinion Poll & Motrice

Opinion Poll has been in great form this season finishing second in Ascot gold cup and then going on to win the Goodwood Cup and Lonsdale cup at York ,though was well beaten in this race last year .Should go well though does look short in market at around 7-4

MOTRICE ran cracker in this race last year  finishing third and finished 3.5 lenghs in front of Opinion Poll .Still only 4 year old and looks open to plenty more improvement over this type trip and at 5-1 looks good each-way value against the favourite.

Of the other runners Saddlers Rock looks bit of dark horse for John Oxx ,though has plenty question marks to answer having only won handicap and was beaten in listed race last time and has to prove his stamina over this marathon trip.

Doncaster St Leger Festival Day two !!!

Wednesday's bet on Elusive Pimpernel was disappointing only finishing fifth in 10 furlong condition stakes, no real excuses sat in perfect position in second place though just had no response inside final two furlongs .Loss on the day of £328.

Moving quickly on to day two at Doncaster we have two group races for fillies and mares, the group two Park hill stakes over I mile 6 furlongs and the group three Sceptre stakes over 7 furlongs.Going concentrate on the Sceptre stakes at 1.55

7F SCEPTRE STAKES GROUP 3 FILLIES & MARES DONCASTER 1.55

ALANZA : Progressive Irish filly winning here last two starts in listed company ,showed smart turn of foot to win at Tipperary last time over 7 furlongs that looked quite strong listed contest with plenty big Irish stables represented.Looks open to plenty more improvement.

VERDICT : Not the strongest looking group three contest with just two main contenders ,Chachamaidee and Alanza

Chachamaidee has looked different horse this season since wearing hood ,showing plenty improvement finishing second in G2 Windsor Forest stakes at Royal Ascot and then an impressive winner of G3 Oak Tree stakes at Goodwood .Has to carry 3LB penalty in this group three contest though looks sure go well for Sir Henry Cecil .

ALANZA has improved with every run this season and receiving 7LB from Chachamaidee is fancied to improve past her main rival .Trainer John Oxx's sends his first runner to Britain this season which looks very significant . 3-1 looks very fair price.

Doncaster St Leger Festival Day one !!!

Day one St Leger festival at Doncaster looks quite difficult with some very competitive races the five furlong Scarborough Stakes (Listed race) at 3.10 the days feature race. This looks very wide open contest with plenty in form sprinters with Medicean Man,Dinkum Diamond
Captain Dunne & Group Therapy all having decent chances.

Going concentrate on what looks less competitive race the 10 furlong conditions race at 4.20 which looks quite decent class 2 conditions race.

10F CONDITIONS RACE CLASS 2 DONCASTER 4.20
ELUSIVE PIMPERNEL : High class 2/3 year old finishing second in the racing post trophy and then winning Craven Stakes at Newmarket .Had been disappointing this season ,though looked on the way back after finishing good second  behind Class is Class in group three Rose Lancaster stakes at Hadock in August with Fallen Idol well behind in fifth.Should go well taking this drop in class.

VERDICT : Decent looking condition race with the three main contenders Fallen Idol ,Elusive Pimpernel & Ceilidh House

Fallen Idol won class 2 handicap and listed race in 2010 ,had looked bit disappointing on his first two starts this season including finishing behind Elusive Pimpernel in Rose Lancaster stakes.Bounced back to form last time winning class two 10 furlong handicap at Sandown off mark 103 .Has to be respected though this looks lot tougher race and at 3-1 looks no great value.

Ceilidh House improving filly winning listed race over C&D at Doncaster last November on softish ground .Made promising reappearance in June finishing third behind the useful Timepiece in Warwickshire Oaks .Should go well though all her best form has been on softer ground .

ELUSIVE PIMPERNEL has to be forgiven for poor run last time though appeared unsuited by the soft ground and step up in trip .Looks to have ideal conditions here 10 furlongs on goodish ground and would take plenty beating if he can reproduce the form of second in group three Rose of Lancaster stakes at Haydock .9-2 looks decent value in conditions race.

Awful Awful Racing !!

Just two flat cards on Monday at Bath & Newcastle both cards can only be described as dire ,which consists of seven class 6 races and eight class 5 races.

On a Monday you don't expect much quality though surely these racecourses can put on something better than this rubbish.

Rant over moving on to later in the week on Wednesday we see the start of the four day St Leger festival at Doncaster which features some top quality action including eight group races over the four days, with the final classic of the season the St Leger run on Saturday.

Looking ahead to tomorrow there does look couple interesting races ,particularly the class four five furlong condition race( 4.00 Leicester).Hopefully we will be back in action then.

Weekly results / round up !!

Excellent result yesterday with Caledonian Spring winning the 2 year old listed race at Haydock in great style at very generous early price of 4-1 for £730 profit on the day.Impressive performance from Caledonian Spring who hasn't stopped improving since stepping up in trip and looks certain to win more races .

Just the two bets on the week the other bet was on the Wednesday at Folkestone .Whispered finishing close second in 1 mile 4 maiden stakes.

Saturdays best bets !!

As normal a very busy Saturday with no less than seven meetings .Haydock stages the feature card in Britain with the highlight being the group one Betfred Sprint Cup at 3.35 which looks wide open with 16 runners going to post .Also very decent card at Leopardstown in Ireland featuring the Irish champion stakes .

Plenty choice on Saturday with so many meetings, though going concentrate on the 1 mile listed race at Haydock 4.40

1 MILE 2-Y-0 LISTED STAKES HAYDOCK 4.40
CALEDONIAN SPRING : Big improver since stepping up in trip ,won hot maiden at Ascot in July beating Mehdi by 1.25 lenghs ,that looks very decent form with second going on to win big sales race next time at Newmarket .Finished good fourth last time in group 3 Acomb stakes at York finishing strongly after not getting the clearest of runs.Should be suited by this longer trip.

VERDICT: Good looking 1 mile listed race for 2 years with some top stables represented.

Both Stipulate and Martin Chuzzlewit are open to plenty improvement after winning decent maidens last time ,though both will need to improve to win this listed contest .

Cruis finished good second last time in nursery handicap at York off mark 86 and will be suited by this longer trip .Looks open to plenty improvement and should be thereabouts.

CALEDONIAN SPRING is 6LB clear on official handicap ratings (97),and has proven form in group company .Will be suited dropping into listed company and looks good value at around 4-1 mark.

Monthly results round up !!!

Slightly frustrating finish to August with Wednesdays bet on Whispering finishing close second, just getting caught by the Sir Henry Cecil trained Protaras .Don't think Whispered did lot wrong though just couldn't quite hold on in close finish.

Overall August has been very good month with profits of around £1165,the only Slight disappointment was the last five bets all getting beaten, though the last four bets did all finish in the places. With just over 2 months of flat season left hopefully we can finish the turf season strongly before moving on to the All Weather in November.
