Summary of 2010 !!

Bitterly disappointing run from Thursdays bet  FOXTROT GOLF in the 7F claiming stakes, finishing well beaten 6TH  LOSS £200 / 2.00 PTS  ,pulled far to hard in first time blinkers and Luke Morris could never settle the horse, though hard to understand why they decided to change tactics and hold the horse up, in previous races the horse had made the running.

Not great way to finish 2010 ,though overall its been satisfactory year with £4670 profit over 11 months since the blog started in February 2010.

As the table shows below the first 5 months were quite successful with good profits of £6410 , that was followed by horrendous month in July losing £3150 .normally a good month for me, though it turned out to be a disaster with only 4 winners from 36 bets, that's just 11 % strike rate .

Not happy with how the last 6 months went with only September being winning month , I will be making big changes next year concentrating more on certain types of races ,which will mean lot less bets around 180 over the year ,though this should ensure far greater quality bets and hopefully bigger profits.

Thursdays best bets !!

Two flat cards on Thursday at Lingfield & Kempton ,both just average meetings though the 7 furlong
2 year old claiming stakes at Kempton looks quite interesting.

7F 2-Y-0 CLAIMING STAKES CLASS 6 KEMPTON 4.40

FOXTROT GOLF : Shown promise on both starts at Kempton ,finished 4TH in maiden over C&D back in November behind Orange Ace ,ran fair 2ND last time in claimer behind Silver Age only beaten 1 lengh.Looks well  weighted in this claimer off 8 stone 3LB .Wears first time blinkers .

VERDICT :TAKEAWAY looks the obvious danger after winning 3 times this season ,though struggled to win selling stakes last time at Wolverhampton, and hasn't looked quite as good since switching from Richard Hannon stable to Jim Boyle, and looks poor value at around 11-8

FOXTROT GOLF goes well at Kempton and wearing blinkers first time also looks significant ,at around 4-1 looks the value bet to upset the favourite.

Sitting out Wednesday !!

Weather conditions have at last started to improve ,with all five scheduled cards in UK & Ireland set to go ahead on Wednesday ,two flat cards at Wolverhampton and Kempton though both cards look very difficult with some very competitive racing ,nothing really stands out,so will be sitting out Wednesday.

Monday, December 27, 2010

Good start to final week of 2010 !!!

Good start to the final week of the year with COLORUS landing big gamble in 5 furlong claiming stakes, making it six  wins over course & distance at Southwell, advised early morning at 7-1  backed into
3-1,really strange betting race early morning favourite Matsunosuke was a big drifter from 13-8 to 7-2 and ran very poorly, finishing well beaten 6TH.

It was very close finish with COLORUS  just holding on by short head  from 20-1 outsider Soopacal in very tight finish, the race worked out really well for me,with the other split stakes bet SLOOP JOHNB
finishing 3RD.£420 PROFIT ON THE DAY.

Tuesday we have two flat meetings at Lingfield & Southwell, though I  don't really like either card both look incredibly tricky cards with no possible bets.

Mondays best bets !!

Just one card surviving on Monday at Southwell ,though I guess that's one better than Boxing day!!,the weathermen forecast the temperatures too improve by Wednesday that's hope there right, not the greatest quality card at Southwell though the 5 furlong claiming stakes at 1.15 looks quite interesting.

5F CLAIMING STAKES CLASS 6 SOUTHWELL 1.15

SLOOP JOHNB : C&D winner back in November beating Lost in Paris by head in class 4 handicap of mark 70,finished placed on last three starts in handicaps ,including finishing 3RD last time over C&D  behind  Sir Geoffrey .Looks well suited to fibresand and should go well dropping into  claimer for first time.

COLORUS : Course specialist winning 5 times over C&D at Southwell ,won 3 times this season, ran good 3RD over C&D in November just behind SLOOP JOHNB only beaten head & neck.Should go well, dropping in class on his favourite track.

VERDICT : Strictly on form MATSUNOSUKE has quite bit in hand  in this claimer being rated 100 ,though was very disappointing 5TH last time when short price favourite in claimer at Lingfield, and hasn't  the greatest record at Southwell  0 from 3,finishing last of 9 last time he ran at Southwell.

Both SLOOP JOHNB & COLORUS are very closely matched ,both have good course records at Southwell and look good value to upset the favourite.

1.15 SOUTHWELL

SLOOP JOHNB .
£50 EACH-WAY / 0.50PTS  EACH-WAY @ 5-1 WILLIAM HILLS.

COLORUS.
£50 EACH-WAY / 0.50PTS  EACH-WAY @ 7-1 WILLIAM HILLS.

Split stakes bet, not a bet I normally use though both SLOOP JOHNB & COLORUS look difficult to separate on form, and not easy to choose between the pair.So quite happy to back them both at decent odds.

Wishing everyone Merry Christmas !!

Final post before Christmas just like to wish everyone who reads the blog a very Merry Christmas & Happy new year.

No excuses for Wednesdays bet NOTHING TO HIDE in 7 furlong maiden stakes at Kempton Park ,simply not good enough had the perfect position in second place though failed to pick up inside final 2 furlongs finishing disappointing 4TH .LOSS £200 / 2.00PTS.

Hopefully the weather will start improve before the start of the new year ,it's been such stop start month with so many abandonments ,making it very difficult to find quality bets , overall its been Satisfactory year with profits of over £4400 , though the last 3 months have been disappointing, no real big losses though it's been difficult to get any forward momentum .

I do expect to make big improvements in 2011 with one or two changes ,which should help ensure bigger profits over the year.

Wednesday best bets !!

Three scheduled flat cards on Wednesday ,though Lingfield & Kempton both face early morning inspections with more snow forecast.

No interest at Lingfield or Southwell both cards look very tricky, Kempton parks late afternoon meeting looks the days best quality card and will hopefully pass the early morning inspection. The 7 furlong maiden stakes at 4.55 looks quite interesting race.

7F MAIDEN STAKES CLASS 6 KEMPTON 4.55

NOTHING TO HIDE : Placed 5 times from 8 starts ,though still maiden has run some decent races including finishing 2ND in 7 furlong handicap at Newbury in July off mark 74.Ran good 2ND last time in 1 mile maiden at Kempton ,behind Flying Power only beaten neck.Should go well in weak maiden.

VERDICT : CORSICAN BOY ran very promising 3RD last time over C&D  and looks open to plenty improvement after only two starts ,though looks bit short in market at around
6-4.NOTHING TO HIDE returned to form last time at Kempton, has highest BHA rating 75, with plenty solid form over 7 furlongs. At the prices looks good value bet at around 3-1.

Weekly results round up !!

Quiet week with just the two bets both finishing second ,slightly frustrating to finish up a losing week, both bets  ran good races though narrowly beaten in photo finishes. LOSS £98.00 / 0.98 PTS on the week .

Poor weather conditions haven't helped this month with so many cards being abandoned, with no scheduled racing from Thursday 23RD to 25TH December, it's probably good time for short break with weather conditions so poor at moment.

THE RESULTS :

Snow snow and more snow !!

No bets on Saturday after Lingfield card was abandoned ,the weather forecast is looking pretty grim for next  week ,all Sunday's racing in UK has already been abandoned, and only Wolverhampton left on Monday.

Saturdays best bets !!

Not much luck so far this week with Fridays bet ABBONDANZA finishing second beaten neck in another close finish ,ran decent enough race though just couldn't catch Punching who held on by neck.LOSS £53.00 / 0.53 PTS.

On to Saturdays racing we have two flat cards weather permitting, Lingfield hold an early morning inspection at 6.45 am,hopefully there meeting will get the go ahead with couple decent looking races including 10f listed contest ,the other meeting at Southwell looks very poor card for Saturday with very few runners again.

6F 2-Y-0 CLAIMING STAKES CLASS 6 LINGFIELD 11.50

CAPTAIN DIMITRIOS : Won 6f seller at Newbury back in July making all ,consistent form since finishing 2ND three times ,ran good forth last time claimer at Kempton behind Rosina Grey ,that looked decent claimer with 2ND ,3RD, 5TH,6TH& 7TH all winning races.Should go well in this much weaker claimer.

VERDICT : CAPTAIN DIMITRIOS stands out in this claimer after running plenty decent races this season in better class races.AROWANA looks the main danger after finishing fair 2ND in 6f claimer at Wolverhampton .

1 MILE 2F LISTED STAKES CLASS 1 LINGFIELD 1.55

SUITS ME : Decent front runner ,finished 2ND in this race the last two years only beaten short head last year behind Tranquil Tiger, also finished credible 2ND in this years G3 winter Derby in March again behind Tranquil Tiger, back to form last time finishing fair 3RD in listed race behind the useful Nadeeb.

VERDICT : Not the strongest listed race.SUITS ME is the only listed race winner in the field and goes particularly well at Lingfield, and should go well from front. CHAPTER AND VERSE & AKHMATOVA are both improving types and look possible dangers ,though will have to improve again to win this listed contest.

Arctic Conditions return !!

Looks like we are in for another long spell  of snow and freezing temperatures, which is sure to affect the racing over Christmas period with plenty meetings being called off again.Looking out the office window the snow has already started here in the East of England ,looks like we are in for one long winter.

Friday we have two flat cards at Southwell & Wolverhampton both cards look very low on quality ,though there does look quite interesting 6 furlong claiming stakes at Southwell.

6F CLAIMING STAKES CLASS 6 SOUTHWELL 12.05

ABBONDANZA : Great record in claimers this year winning 6 times ,back to form last time winning 6 furlong  claimer at Wolverhampton beating Stablemate Spin Again by easy 3 lenghs ,has to prove himself on fibresand, only ran on this surface once finishing slightly disappointing 5TH , though trainer Dandy Nicholls has excellent record at the track ,will go close if handling the surface.

VERDICT : ABBONDANZA & EBRAAM both stand out here with excellent records in claimers.EBRAAM won his last two races in claiming company at Lingfield & Wolverhampton ,though has never won on fibresand, his trainer Ron Harris is not in the best form 1 winner from 29 in December. At the prices ABBONDANZA looks the better value bet with the stable in great form.

Tough Thursday !!

Just the two flat cards on Thursday ,Southwell & Kempton ,it looks very tricky day with very small fields at Southwell ,not sure why but they don't seem be attracting many runners at moment, though I guess with very little prize money on offer its not great surprise. Kempton park stage an 8 race evening card, though this looks tough, very competitive racing with no possible bets.

Wednesday, December 15, 2010

No luck whatsoever !!

Still hard to believe how Wednesdays bet DREAM OF FORTUNE was beaten in claiming stakes!!

After being held up in early part of race, travelling very smoothly DREAM OF FORTUNE took the lead inside final furlong and quickly going 2 lenghs clear,at this point looked the certain winner, trading at minimum price          1-100 on betting exchanges, somehow he got caught on line by EDGEWORTH who came from nowhere to lead on post and win by short head.Just one them  very frustrating days and loss £55.00 / 0.55 pts

Wednesday best bets !!

Two flat cards on Wednesday at Kempton park & Lingfield, just the one race of interest in the opening race at Lingfield 10 furlong claiming stakes.

10F CLAIMING STAKES CLASS 6 LINGFIELD 12.05

DREAM OF FORTUNE :Very consistent 6-Y-0 & three time C&D winner at Lingfield,in good form this season winning twice and placed 7 times ,ran good 3RD on Monday at Wolverhampton in class 5 handicap only beaten 1/2 lengh.Drops back into claiming company and should go well.

VERDICT : DREAM OF FORTUNE is very consistent in this grade, goes particularly well at Lingfield. Tom Queally looks significant jockey booking having won one him twice this season
MERRYMADCAP & TURJUMAN look the main two dangers.

Blank Tuesday !!

Unfortunately yesterdays intended bet STEPS was lot shorter price than I expected ,with 2 non runners in the race the early 2-1 soon disappeared and was heavily backed into 5-4 .STEPS was easy 2 lengh winner making all ,slightly disappointing to miss out on winner, though never reached my minimum price of 9-4.this game is all about value for money and there didn't look much value in that price.

Tuesday we just have one flat card at Southwell which stages an 8 race card, though this looks very poor quality meeting and nothing of interest there today.

Monday, December 13, 2010

Mondays best bets

We may see bit more racing this week, with bit warmer temperatures forecast for the early part of the week, just the one flat card on Monday at Wolverhampton which stages 8 race card.Only the one race of interest the 5 furlong 2-Y-O maiden stakes at 3.20

5F 2-Y-O MAIDEN STAKES CLASS 5 WOLVERHAMPTON 3.20

STEPS :Placed on all three starts, only just beaten last time in three way photo at Lingfield behind Crimson Cloud, finished strongly that day and would have won in another few strides. That looks  solid form with 2ND from that race Liberty Green winning maiden next time.

VERDICT : QUALITY ART looks the obvious danger after finishing good 2ND last time at Kempton  in fair maiden over 6F ,though Gary Moore stable are not in best of form (1 from 27) in last 6 weeks, and looks very short in market.

STEPS has very solid form and looks sure to go well from decent draw in stall 3,trainer Michael Jarvis has excellent record at Wolverhampton this season with his 2 year old's
( 75 % strike rate (3 out 4 )

Weekly results round up !!

Disappointing end to the week with POLLY HOLDER finishing unplaced in 2-Y-0 claiming stakes, only managing 6TH and didn't show any improvement stepping up in trip, most disappointing effort.

It did finish up winning week thanks to CAPRIO winning at 9-2 on Monday ,though still not happy how things turned out this week, with the last two selections both running so poorly.

THE RESULTS :

Saturdays best bets !!

Three flat cards on very busy Saturday, nothing of interest at afternoon cards though there looks quite interesting 1 mile 1 furlong, 2 year old claiming stakes at Wolverhampton's evening card.

1 MILE 1 FURLONG 103 YDS CLAIMING STAKES CLASS 6 WOLVERHAMPTON 7.20

POLLY HOLDER : Three promising runs in maiden company(two at Wolverhampton) staying on well each time ,looks sure to improve stepping up in trip, being daughter of Pentire Celebre ,takes drop in class here into claiming company for first time.Looks well weighted off 8 stone

VERDICT : Interesting little claimer ,SHELIA'S STAR looks sure to go well after winning her last two races at Wolverhampton (claimer & seller ) won over C&D last time beating A Little Bit Dusty.though this does look tougher race.POLLY HOLDER is open to plenty of improvement over this trip and with drop in class also in her favour ,looks the value bet at around 7-2 to beat likely favourite SHELIA'S STAR.

Thursdays reflections !!

Bitterly disappointing day on Thursday  after GOLDEN SHINE ran an absolute shocker finishing well beaten 5th ,hard to believe she ran so badly after being subject to massive gamble 9-2 into 13-8 favourite , she never  looked like winning after getting behind early and never picked up.

No great surprise JOHNNY HANCOCKS went on to win the race, as he was obvious danger. The good thing is we still £340 / 3.40 pts in profit on the week, though still disappointing to give back £200 / 2.00 pts.

On too Fridays racing we have two flat cards at Southwell & Wolverhampton ,though no great appeal at either meeting, Southwell have very small fields and Wolverhampton looks very competitive with some very tricky races.

Thursday, December 09, 2010

Thursday best bets !!

Quiet start to the week with just the one bet so far ,two cards on Thursday  at Wolverhampton & Kempton not great deal of interest at Wolverhampton, though there look very interesting 5 furlong claiming stakes at Kemptons evening meeting.

5F CLAIMING STAKES CLASS 6 KEMPTON 4.00

GOLDEN SHINE :Failed to stay 7 furlongs last time at Wolverhampton when finishing disappointing 9th,though the return to 5 furlongs is sure to suit here, ran fair third in claimer at Wolverhampton over 5 furlongs behind Lady Prodee only beaten neck & head after racing wide.Looks well weighted in this claimer off 8 stone and should go well.

VERDICT : JOHNNY HANCOCKS & GOLDEN SHINE are closely matched on there running earlier last month at Wolverhampton when only head separated the pair.GOLDEN SHINE is 2lb better off here and that may be enough to turn the tables and at the prices looks the better value bet.

Great start to the week !!

Great start to the week with CAPRIO winning at 9-2  for £540 / 5.40 pts profit on the day,in very close finish CAPRIO just held on beating the favourite EVERYMANFORHIMSELF by nose.

Two cards on Tuesday southwell & lingfeld ,both cards look very tricky and nothing stands out no bets.

Monday, December 06, 2010

Mondays best bets

Monday we have two cards at  Lingfield & Southwell ,nothing of interest at Southwell which stages mixed card with three national hunt flat races ,though there  looks quite interesting 7 furlong claiming stakes at Lingfield.

7F CLAIMING STAKES CLASS 6 LINGFIELD 2.00

CAPRIO :Three time claiming winner earlier in the season ,ran good third  at Kempton in September (class 4 ) 7 furlong  handicap of mark 80 only beaten 1 lengh behind REGENERATION.Also ran good third over C&D last time in claimer only beaten short head & head, goes particularly well for Nicky Mackay and should go close.

VERDICT : EVERYMANFORHIMSELF & CAPRIO are very closely matched only head separated the pair last time at lingfield . CAPRIO looked unlucky not to win that day after coming from long way back and would won in another stride ,consistent type and has good record in claimers and looks the better value bet at around 4-1 / 9-2 mark.

Its not  been easy week with very poor weather conditions making it difficult to find winners, and ended up slightly disappointing week. 3 bets.(0 winners)(1 second)(1 third)(1 unpl )(loss £265 / 2.65 pts. )

Going back to November it ended up losing month with loss £335 / 3.35.

Shivering Saturday !!

Fridays bet SPARKING finished second in tight finish, could not quite catch CRIMSON QUEEN getting beat neck at 11-4   loss £45.00 / 0.45 pts

Saturday we have three AW cards, though after going through all the races nothing really makes strong appeal ,with some really tricky races and very difficult to pinpoint any decent bet. With the continuing freezing weather conditions  its probably good time to take couple days out.,hopefully the weather will start to improve sometime soon.

Friday, December 03, 2010

Fridays best bets

Most disappointing day on Thursday ,firstly Lingfield was abandoned after heavy snow, then Wolverhampton had to survive two afternoon inspections before getting the go ahead.

That left just one bet A LITTLE BIT DUSTY in 4.30.and was subject to heavy support in market 7-1 into  7-2  in the race he travelled really well, turning into straight looked the winner with 2 furlongs to run and traded as low as 1-3 in running at that point ,though found very little inside final furlong and weakened and could not even finish in the places, finishing forth behind IVAN'S A STAR ,the track appeared to be running really slow and appeared not get home unfortunately. loss £200 / 2.00 pts on the day.

Two scheduled meetings on Friday, Lingfield & Wolverhampton, must be some doubt about Lingfield going ahead after all the snow that fell there yesterday,Wolverhampton stage massive 10 race card 2.35 to 7.15

Like the look of two bets on Friday one at each meeting 12.40 Lingfield & 6.45 Wolverhampton.

(LINGFIELD HAS NOW BEEN ABANDONED FROZEN TRACK !!)

5F MAIDEN STAKES CLASS 5 WOLVERHAMPTON 6.45

SPARKING : Placed three times in maidens here at Wolverhampton over 5 & 6 furlongs ,including when close third over C/D back in October behind Doc hay ,should go close in this very weak maiden race.

VERDICT :Sprint maidens don't come much weaker than this & SPARKING looks the clear form pick after three fair placed runs at Wolverhampton.Trainer D.Barrons is also in good form.
Francis Albert looks the main danger after finishing good second last time in 5 furlong handicap at Kempton.

Thursdays best bets

Thursday we have two flat cards at Lingfield & Wolverhampton ,the major problem at minute is lack of runners with trainers reluctant to run horses in blizzard like conditions, which is understandable travelling in these conditions must be nightmare..

Saying that there looks couple interesting races on Thursday one at each meeting ,1 mile 4f claiming stakes Lingfield 2.30 & 1 mile selling stakes at Wolverhampton 4.30.Hopefully there wont be too many non runners.

1 MILE 4F CLAIMING STAKES CLASS 6 LINGFIELD 2.30

TALENTI :In great form winning 4 times in 5 starts all over 1 mile 4f and 3 out 3 in claimers ,claimed for £6,000 by D. FLOOD after winning claimer last time at Kempton .Goes particularly well for DANE O' NEIL who's won on him 4 times.Should go well in weak race.

VERDICT :SWORN TIGRESS looks the only danger ,had some decent form earlier in the season winning three times in March ,though hasn't won since ,and was slightly disappointing when beaten in seller last time at Wolverhampton.TALENTI  has done well this season winning 4 times ,and has excellent record in claimers 3 out 3, looks the one too beat.

I MILE 2-Y-0 SELLING STAKES CLASS 6 WOLVERHAMPTON 4.30

A LITTLE BIT DUSTY : Won seller at Lingfield over 1 mile,  2 weeks ago beating Ivan's a Star by 2.5 lenghs making all ,ran good 2nd on Monday in seller at Wolverhampton over 1 mile 1f ,again  tried to make all just getting caught near finish by Shelia's Star.will be suited by drop back to 1 mile.

VERDICT : BILL PAGE & SO IS SHE both look possible dangers though both are unproven over 1 mile and look plenty short enough in betting.A LITTLE BIT DUSTY proven winner over 1 mile and has good draw for front runner .looks solid each-way bet at around 4-1 mark.

More snow blizzards on Wednesday ??

Horrendous conditions on Tuesday with both meetings run in snow blizzards ,not to disappointed with the run of LEWYN who finished reasonable third at 4-1 in claiming stakes, finishing strongly from off the pace in terrible conditions.Small loss on the day - £20.00 / 0.20 pts.

Wednesday we have just the one meeting  at Kempton park , though another very poor quality meeting with no possible bets there ,not easy to find quality bets at minute.though it has to be expected with these bad conditions.Hopefully there will be something better later in the week.
